Widescreen Monitor Question

I'm sure this has been asked before but I'm using a 19" LCD 12x10 at work and a 19" CRT at home so wide screen isn't something I know much about. If I get a 24" LCD Widescreen Monitor can I still set 1280x1024 when I want to use that resolution? And if I can will it be in the center of the screen. I'm running a 8800GTS so I have NVidia drivers.

i think when you get a widescreen you gonna want to run at 1600x1200 or 1920x1200. as for your question, i think you will be able to run at the resolution but the image will be at the center with black border left and right.

actually, the default is stretched, but you can set it to fixed aspect ratio (black bars on the sides) if you want to.

Thanks guys. I'll run the native resolution normally but I wanted to run at 12x10 centered with black bars to test webpage designs in that resolution. And maybe some gaming too.
