Maybe I'm lucky, but I can downscale with both my LCD's so long as I stay in the monitor's aspect ratio. It looks just as good that way as the native res does... only with more jaggies (just like with a CRT). Now, when not gaming I have to keep the desktop at the native res otherwise things just become very blurry. Especially text. But for gaming I can downscale to any resolution that is within my monitor's aspect ratio and it still look just fine. Heck, I can even go down to a non-wide screen resolution and it'll look fine cause the image doesn't get stretched to fit the width of my screen.

Maybe I'm lucky, or just not as difficult to please.

Your placebo or wishful thinking can tell you whatever you want, but lesser resolution also means inferior depth perception, texture sharpness, color precision, overall detail, simply less overall quality - you kid yourself if you think res is only about jaggies


For people that have a harder time detecting these things right away, play in high res for a few hours, then go low res + a little FSAA if you want. The difference will be quite evident

Yeah, most console games are capped at 30FPS and some would likely run at 60FPS but not constantly. A drop from 60FPS to 30FPS is VERY painful and just looks horrible so anyone in their right mind would cap it at a stable framerate. I think anyone would rather it feel smooth.

It definitely depends on what kind of game you're playing, but playing an FPS at 30FPS on a PC, using a mouse is horrible. Fast movements makes the framerate so much more noticeable.

Spending over £1000 on a PC to be able to play Crysis at (realistically) 15-25FPS when there's a battle going on, is just pathetic. It may be around 30-40 when there's jack-**** going on, but still, it's no where near as smooth as _most_ console games.

IMO 30FPS on a console game and 30FPS on a PC game are two completely different things. Consoles are capped at 30 to keep the gameplay smooth, PC's are likely at 30 because you have no choice; it's as good as you're gonna get and it's not going to be a pleasant experience.

TBH i would never justify getting triple sli to play a game at highest settings at 30fps, that is absolutley ridiculousley insane.

Reason....there will be better looking games than Crysis in the not to near future and i bet they run a lot better too !!!!!

No, I'm well aware of what lower resolutions do to the over-all image quality. I'm merely stating that I do not notice scaling issues like most people seem to have- both my LCD monitors scale down to lower resolutions *BETTER* than any CRT I've ever owned- and I say "better" cause my LCD monitors even scale properly with an aspect ratio other than 16:10. If I ever tried to run a wide-screen resolution on my 4:3 CRT it'd look like crap... but using a 4:3 resolution on both my LCD's looks just fine as the monitor itself scales the image to fit the screen while maintaining the appropriate aspect ratio. Now maybe I just really fortunate with my two monitors, or maybe I just cannot notice the scaling issue. Regardless, I do think some people might be exaggerating how bad it is, or they're just too picky.

Honestly, Project Offset, though looking nice, still doesn't capture a "realistic" look quite as well as Crysis can. Furthermore, even better visuals than what are currently offered from the in-game menu can be attained within the editor- albeit at single digit frames.

No, I imagine as hardware progresses, Crysis will continue to get better looking.

With that said, I do believe that *eventually* a better looking game *will* be released. I just do not think Project Offset will be that game.

Crysis will be the best looking game for quite some time baby so no hard feelings. Tho far cry 2 look better on some aspects but am not convinced as we havn't seen som much from it. Project offsett looks nice, but not as nice as crysis.
