here's a nice little article about 'average joe'

given the average size of average joe's television and using this graph, I, once again, will continue to laugh in your face if you can tell me otherwise about upconverted dvds.

you know what the worst part is, I grabbed these links off of these forums. take some time, look around, learn something and then reply. you'll do everyone a favor.
Imbroglio, if you are so dense that the "Average Joe" monniker fits so be it. Not everyone is educated and informed on the matter. However, I thought I was on the AV forums. Don't you at least have to be somewhat educated on the matter to understand the topic. You probably have no comprehension of what 1080p vs 1080i vs 720p really means. I suspect that the holy grail of 480p is good enough for you.

Imbroglio, your link deceives you again. 1080p on a 40 inch television becomes noticeably better at 7-8 feet. Now, assuming your optimal viewing distance is 1.5 to 2.5 times the diagonal length (http://www.crutchfieldadvisor.com/IS...e/tv_faq.html), you would easily tell the difference. Now you and your 19 inch monster set would get very little benefit.

MS could, and can, make a BD player for the 360, Sony would really have a hard time stopping them.

Ignoring that MS supplies the OS for likely 90% of Sony pc's/laptops/etc. And ignoring that MS owns the VC-1 codec also used in BD players. And ignoring that Sony isn't the owner of BD, but rather a group of companies. And ignoring that MS could, should they want, disable BD players from working in Windows.

Instead lets focus on how MS in the middle of a world wide credit crunch is able to easily throw together 44.6 billion (an american billion) in cash to buy Yahoo http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post...ping-cart.html
MS could easily buy a significant chunk of Sony, should they want to.

Lyme, you are being very deceptive. Sony Financial Holdings is absolutely not representative of Sony as a whole. Sony is a huge conglomerate similar to GE. Thus, the Financial Holding division has almost nothing to do with their Movie or Electronic division. Why don't you educate yourself before spewing complete BS. Google can also be your enemy if you don't know what the hell you are looking for. Sony as a whole is likely worth tens of billions. Microsoft is bigger but they could not eat Sony quite as easily as they may take Yahoo.

Click the link. LMAO Lyme, yes Sony Corporation is now solely n the business of selling insurance. Did you even read about Sony Financial Holdings? Are you so dense that the first thing "Sony" that popped up in google made you post? This is what is great about forums, a person in the know can quite easily educate those poor individuals who have not a clue. LMAO.

BTW, why is it suddenly vogue to compare plain ole DVD to Blu Ray. Is it because the HD DVD nuthhuggers know they have lost the battle (war?). Oh well, technology will continue to march on and leave you behind.
fwiw... personal attack != intelligent response.

on topic... you make predictions about when SDTV's will become obsolete and when DVD production will stop and all this BULL**** that you are spewing is starting to stink out the open forum.

so put up or shut up. quit looking into that busted ass crystal ball. at least you had some sort of facts to backup your HDTV selling rate statistic.

There's been talk of MS making a BD add-on for the 360.

LMAO...such an intelligent response. At least we agree that Hillary is a complete joke. However, your continued devotion to a last gen format like DVD is laughable. The future is coming and DVD is not part of the equation. Mark this thread and check back in five years to see which format is dominant.

1. im not devoted to DVD. i could give two ****s. im just saying that it will probably last a lot longer than expected because Joe Consumer doesnt even know wtf a pixel is.

2. Hillary is a joke.

3. the response was not intended to be a serious response. it's so heavily ladened with sarcasm that if it were a balloon, it would be at the bottom of the ocean.
