Well my Opteron took a crap on me and I needed a Rig badly so I purchased a new board, cpu, ram, and case. (See "gaming rig" for details)
I haven't been following the Quads too closely besides the server counterparts I work with at work and I was able to get a G0 Q6600 and it clocked up to 3Ghz @ 1.38vCore keep in mind this is with 2GB Sticks (will have 8GB total once second set comes in). But I'm using the stock heatsink at the moment, I want to stay air and am willing to spend a decent amount to get the best cooling. What is the best out right now? Scythe? Zalman 9700cu? Not too sure to be honest, temps are getting semi hot @ 62c full load and I want to keep them down as much as possible. Also, anyone have tips on how to get a higher clock!? I'm new to Intel Overclocking but i'm sure i'll get it down with enough play time with this board. Thanks again EDIT: Ninja Edit, 3Ghz was my goal and i'm sure this CPU will clock higher with a better heatsink and possibly better ram if I choose to go that route (for my setup i'd rather go quantity over speed) |

Zalman 9700 keeps my Q6600 overclocked 10% at 45-50 idle 55-59 full load.
that's with Arctic Silver 5. Don't use the included Zalman paste. I tried the zalman paste on my 360 and it immediately died a day after (Yeah I have the 3rlod error). I used Arctic Silver on my 360 a day later, and it hasn't died on me after HOURS of gameplay. There's VERY good thermal transfer with AC5. Edit: I'd say 62 Celsius is pushing it.... might wanna underclock it a bit till you get a better cooler ![]() ![]() ![]() The fan behind it is 120mm. The Zalman sure is big.

Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme is the current choice for most with regards to extreme air cooling, Coupled with a 1600rpm Scythe S-FLEX 120mm Fan probably ,
Scythe Kaze Jyuni 1900RPM Slip Stream 120mm Fan looks interesting though (fan controller advised due to the loud). look at the graph supplied by mullet http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=107340

I found a site, albeit a little bit more expensive that has the Ultra Extreme in stock, I'm gonna pick one of those up here in a few days.
I'm still testing but I was able to boot and play Crysis with 3Ghz 1:1 ram at stock vCore. I'm having a few issues with Crysis as it crashes at stock speeds and overclocked, i'm thinking its the beta drivers i'm running. Load after playing Crysis was 55c which is much better, this is still using the stock cooler too. |

I have the Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme on my Q6600 and it works great I have a Silverstone ajustable fan on mine ,but it is tall so make sure it will fit in your case.I run my at 3.3gig at 1.35v ,but I have the B3 model and it gets to around 58c running Prime95 on the torture test, but that is good for a B3 model, the GO runs cooler.
