What's wrong with my PSU?

May have to do with your north bridge overheating. The 780i is a very hot chipset. Anyways, try remove the CPU from the socket, clear cmos, and remove the battery, and try again after an hour or two. Also, the 550W PSU is most definitely not enough for your system.

The case is a Lian-LI PC1200B, which has plenty of room for airflow, and even if the chipset gets hot i can't believe it will shut down after 20 minutes of XP installation. It looks it is something else to me.

Btw, I was installing XP with only one 8800 gtx, which I think a 550w psu can take?

I will anyway do as you say, try to take everything apart and install it again.

The north bridge temps does go very high even at idle. Some people with a defective board will hit 90C in 2 mintues. You need a fan blowing directly on the north bridge to cool it. I have 4 120mm fans on the side frame but even that are not enough, unitl and I put a Antec Spotcool in.

I don't get it.

The computer starts up and everything works (fans, etc) but i get no monitor signal and the LCD poster keeps blinking with the "CPU init" message and it's all an overheating problem?? Can the northbridge reach 90C in 2 seconds???

I mean... this is crazy!!! I'll try this noon again, and check the beep error messages.

I have read many reports about memeory compatibilty problems and improper memory voltage settings, could be that?

Damn, it's almost two weeks now to get a computer built and working.

The CPU init error is very infamous. Do you have another CPU that you can use to see if you can get the board to POST first?

What do you guys think it is?? Which steps should i take?

You overloaded that circuit try computer in different room see if it still tripped the breaker.
