Default Variable graphics modes broken?

On NVidia Linux driver releases prior to 1.0-4349, I was able to specify any graphics resolution--I've been running 1400x1050 as it is still a 4:3 aspect ratio, and I find 1600x1200 too high for my 21" monitor and 1280x1024 too low.

But with 1.0-4349, I can no longer specify that mode; the driver won't take it 1280x1024 and 1600x1200 work just fine.

Any suggestions?

If a resolution won't work you most likely have incorrect scan line refreshes defined for your monitor.
