Hi,
I tried different DPI settings like this Code:
Option "UseEdidDpi" "FALSE"
Option "DPI" "50 x 50"
Code:
Option "DPI" "100 x 100" I used NVIDIA-Linux-x86-169.04, NVIDIA-Linux-x86-169.07, NVIDIA-Linux-x86-169.09 (with these I can not switch back to the virtual text console <alt>-<ctrl>-<f1>, get an out of sync message from my Acer AL2021 DFP as other people wrote in the forum) and NVIDIA-Linux-x86-96.43.05 (with the Option "ModeValidation" "NoDFPNativeResolutionCheck", otherwise I can only switch to 1280x1024 on my 1600x1200 panel. Thanks to the guys in this forum for the hints.). With the "old" Nvidia driver NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9746 the DPI setting worked as expected. But the driver does not compile any more on my new Fedora 8 / Kernel 2.6.23.14-115.fc8 system Attached my config and the log. I start the system in the GUI mode (runlevel 5) and login from there. Don't know how to switch to "-logverbose 6" in this case. Hope someone can help Tx Holger |

Could this be related to https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13877 ?

Thanks for the hint. I forgot that the X itself could be the source of the problem. Beside the kernel and the NVIDIA driver the X itself changed as well ... I will check this more detailed tonight. Tx.

Wow. I figured it out.
Fedoras xorg-x11-xinit-1.0.7-2.fc8.rpm ships a /etc/X11/Xresources with these data: Code:
! Fix the Xft dpi to 96; this prevents tiny fonts ! or HUGE fonts depending on the screen size. Xft.dpi: 96 Code:
screen #0: dimensions: 1600x1200 pixels (813x610 millimeters) resolution: 50x50 dots per inch depths (7): 24, 1, 4, 8, 15, 16, 32 Thanks Forum and I hope I can help someone else with this information. Cheers Holger |

So basically it was due to a Fedora "feature"?

Yes. Indeed. The bad news is, that xdpyinfo doesn't show this other DPI setting. It was pure luck that I found this.
