Cool A good Anti-Virus that doesn't hog your resources?

Which AntiVirus is easier on the system? Norton, McAfee, etc.

If you use the auto-protection feature of any of them, they're all bad.

So, the lesson is, be careful, don't use Outlook, don't use IE, and don't grab warez.

The only virii I've ever had on my box was when somebody in my family who shall remain nameless (*cough brother cough*) managed to get some bad mojo off of Kazaa. Then I turned off Kazaa for him, turned off drive sharing on my box, and I've been flawless.

The best Anti-Virus is: DONT OPEN STRANGE FILES THAT YOU CANT IDENTIFY!!!!!!!!!

Ive been all over the net, warez, roms, cracks, p2p... the worst of it, and ive NEVER had a virus on any computer at my house (we're talking 6 years online). Ive used an anti-virus program maybe twice in 5 years and they both came up clean.

Im serious when I say this: the best anti-virus is safe surfing\downloading. Dont open strange email attachments. And dont open anything that people send you that you arent expecting.

Not trying to troll... just trying to give helpfull advice.

Well, I can tell you that I like Norton a lot better than McAfee in that respect. We have McAfee at work and I basically can't do anything when that goofy thing is running. I use Norton at home and I don't have any performance issues with it (except I always disable it when I am getting a bunch of files out of Sourcesafe otherwise it goes too slow).

I like AVG .. free.. competent in what it needs to do. ... oh yeah did I mention free? but yeah I use it on top of cautious downloading. My brother trusts his own judgement so i don't install anything for him.. I trust him too .. he knows what ot open and what not to open .. my mom's computer on the other hand ..could use antivirus as there are more than one person using the thing . [dang i build my younger sis and that's what I get? < thinks about yanking out the two 128s to reclaim the ram that was sacrificd >]

I use NAV and I find no slowdowns. And I have a humble P3 800EB with 256 Mb PC133.
Even if you take care and don't execute unknown files, there's always a chance, you may distract sometime, you may open an e-mail with virus, or a friend's exe that you need but he doesn't know it's infected...
Not having antivirus is like not having insurance, but taking much care of not being robbed and not having any fires.

Not useing Internext Explorer, nor Outlook.

Use Phoenix, it's faster, smaller, and open-source.
