Default (ask) LCD resolution settings for XB360

Hi guys,

i've just bought :

Samsung 932GW (19' wide)
Resolution (pixels): 1440 by 900
Contrast Ratio: 3000:1

I'm using it for xbox360.
according to the specs, the resolution is 1440 by 900, so is this means i can't play at 1920?and what happens if i pushed to set the resolution on 1920?need your enlightenment please...thx guys

Yup playing at the native res is always the way to go, because running it on anything else results in scaling, which degrades the picture quality depending on the quality of the chip involved. Some TVs however only support certain features on predefined HDTV resolutions. The only good thing with scaling is that you get some free AA when using a resolution larger than the native one.

There's been a new update to the 360 that I dont know of ?
the 360 dosent nativly support 16:10

Either way, if you can play in 1080p or not, scaling is going to be there. As most games are internally renderd in 720p or less...
So if you display at 1080p, the 360 is actually upscaling the picture.
So a pixel perfect match you would prolly get at 720p, but not all games run that "high" res. They _support_ it, but nativly dont go up to 1080p

Your monitor might display 1080p, mine does (native res 1680x1050) so it downscales, as would yours. Try it, if it dosent work the res will switch back after 20 seconds. But know that the native image will first have been upscaled by the 360 and then downscaled by your LCD..

This is a fun subject, and something you can try your self. Some games _always_ render in there internal resolution, like Ut3 based games, if you lower to 640x480 you wont see a performance gain, but in others you will, like Tomb Raider.
The 360 media interface has a native res at 720p, so if you go 1080p that too will just upscale.

no, but 1360x768 will scale and look fine on his LCD.

On a 19" screen you would never be able to tell the difference between 1080p and 720p. Even if somehow your 19" screen had native 1080p it wouldn't look any different from 720p.

Also consider the fact that 360 games don't ever really render at 1080p but as others have mention are simply upscaled.

Remember upscaling is used because on LARGE screens 360 games can look bad (aliasing) so the image is cleaned up. Why would you want that on a 19" screen?

And the "native resolution" thing is not a big deal. I used to play my 360 on a 22" Samsung monitor (1680x1050 wich is not supported by 360) but the image looked great anyway.

I use 1280x1024 widescreen expanded on my 22 samsung 226cw with the 360 vga cable.1360x768 displays slightly offset to the right and 1920x1080 doesnt scale down to fit.

Connect with VGA or DVI if possible.
If you can run at higher than native resolution, it will just scale down anyway.
Don't worry, it will look great on that monitor.

Not true, mine doesnt scale down to 1680x1050 when set to 1920x1080,the display is larger than the screen surface.I get a zoom effect of sorts and the borders of the game are missing.
