Question Personal Cinema running Slackware

I currently run Slackware on a old system and have gotten to the point where I want to run it on my main system. The only thing stopping me is the fact that the newer system has a Personal Cinema using the Geforce2 MX 400 card (64MB, Twin-View, TVTuner), (it comes bundled with WinDVD&WinDVR).

I'm sure I'll be able to get through installing the 3d drivers without to much of a headache, but the PCinema also requires the installation of the WDM drivers (which I know mean Windows Drivers Model).

-My question is how/will I be able to retain the capture functionality?
-What software would be available to replace the WinDVD & WinDVR bundle, if any?

I realize the 'supported platforms' only list windows variants, but I'm really hoping there is a way for this to work under Linux.

I wouldn't think about replacement software for the apps you mentioned at the moment. Your first concern will be to get all tv functionality and the other stuff working.

You have one chance for that: http://rivatv.sourceforge.net

Rivatv is a project that is developing stuff to get tvin and tvtuner stuff working on linux. Not sure if the stuff on your card is already supported, if not you really should contact the rivatv developers. I'm sure it is not that hard to add support. (perhaps parts are already supported)

After that there will be various tools to use the features of the card. (xawtv and lots of others for tv / tvin stuff, xine/mplayer for DVD's ..)

Default Personal Cinema?

jasgrave - Did you ever get anywhere with this?.. My machine is still dual-booting XP-pro/Mandrake 9.1 just because of the Video Capture abilities...

unfortunately no, I never got it working...

To be honest, I can't even remember what I had tried. I know I spent alot of time googling and reading, but was unsuccessfull. IIRC, the stumbling block was when detemining the pci address of the device to be used by either rivatv of bttv. The pod uses the phillips hardware, but is not recognized anywhere (at least that I can find).

On a side note, both rivatv and bttv support the phillips chipset, it's just a matter of making it visible.

I plan on buying a new video card soon, and will probably buy a seperate tv card.

p.s. - You know, I think I'll take another swing at this.
