Hello to everyone - I am new to the forum - I just go my 9800 GTX - works great on Windows - but can't seem to get the drivers installed on my Linux HD.
Why do I want to put such a cool card on my Linux?

Well I am interested in designing some cross-platform video games - for teaching science (spectroscopy, photosynthesis, electron configuration) just the normal stuff - really just for fun - I like the freedom of Linux (I also like the ease with which most installations work on Windows)

Anyway -

Does anyone have Ubuntu OS? - I can't get the beta drivers installed - I downloaded them from nvidia.com

Thanks in advance

(Should this be a new thread maybe????)

I just replaced my asus 8800 gt by an evga 9800 gtx a week ago, and must admit, the nvidia linux beta drivers are working surprisingly fine. (Making Ubuntu work with this card was a surprise to me, as the 8800 gt caused system lockups after less than a hour, most likely due to overheating, or problems with multible cpu cores, but my new card continues working 12 hours after reboot, and longer). Several opengl and glsl demos (compiz activated) worked well at a resolution of 1920x1200. In the Ubuntu subforum there is a forum sticky about how to install the drivers on recent linux distros, have you read it? ( http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=72490 )

Got an Xpertvision 9600GT for my spare rig. Tested it first in the main rig, and playing a few games, I actually felt no performance difference from my current 8800GTS 640MB, lol. (even though the GTS has a higher fillrate, 32 more stream processors and larger memory bandwidth).

Edit: well, Oblivion in 1600x1200 w/4xAA and texture map enhancements did bring it to its knees tho, hehe.

Sweet! Congrats ^^^

My buddy just got one of these for his AMD 64 system. He was upgrading a 7800GTX. The 9600 GT is a great upgrade if you have a late 7 series card.

He was running UT 3 at like 30 FPS at 1600x1200 with all settings turned up with the 7800, now he gets 60FPS pinned.

HL2 games, like TF2 are running much better for him. WoW increased a little. He can even play Conan with some tweaks.

This is a fantastic card for the price and I'm sure it rocks in SLI. I'm impressed.

If you have a older AMD 64/X2 system with a 6 or 7 series (or even low end 8400) get this card, it WTFPWNS.

For those who'd like to fold with their 9600GT, I've been running the GPU2 client all day and it's turning in about 3400 PPD. (CPU is E2160 @ 2.7 GHz).

Just got a 9600GT from XFX to replace my 3rd dead 7950GT AGP (great reason to upgrade my system). Do you think it would be worth it to buy a second one for SLI? It's very tempting since I can get a second one for $99 after rebate a Newegg.

Edit: Decided to buy a second on from Newegg. $91 after rebate and $8 credit. The price jumped up $20 the day after I bought it.

I nabbed one @ CC for $80.00 ($99.00 in store then used a $25.00 gift card). Very nice performance for the cost.

I recently grabbed a MSI 9600GT OC for my kids computer. I was impressed! It was only about 10% slower than my 8800GT and 1/3 the price. Great value and capable of running modern games on high detail.

Got one for PhysX a few days back. It does a great job!

The only down side is I don't seem to be able to OC the 260's without OCing the 9600GT. Trying to find a solution with NVidia but no luck so far. I'll post again if we find a solution.
