Question Is Geforce 4 Ti X worth buying anymore?

I'm thinking about changing my good ol' gf2 mx400 And I was thinking that should I buy a Geforce 4 Ti X or should I just wait for R9700/nv30 to drop down in price? (I've been waiting for a long time now )

And if I bought a geforce 4 Ti X now, could play Doom 3 with it? (I play at 1024x768 mostly/always ), I don't want to buy a new card every year .

Thanks

Whee, this is the 1337 post in this NVIDIA Cards forum lol

With a GF4 Ti4600, i think you COULD play Doom3 - but with medimum settings ( or maybe less, not sure ), 1024x768 and no AA/Aniso.

Not sure however. That's just AFAIK

Unless you plan to buy a Ti 4200 then don't bother. If you have the cash for the Ti4600 then go look at a R9700 instead. However if you are paitent then get a NV30, providing it comes out in a timely mannor.

But ti 4600 doesn't cost too much anymore (atleast in USA, but in here it does )... I was thinking of spending like 200-250 $/€ on a video card, so should I wait for R 9500 or buy a Ti 4200-4400 now?

Buy the 9700 over the TI 4600, as it delivers alot more. For a price a 374 shipped, and kicking the Geforce4's arse by a huge margin, it's alot better to buy a 9700.

If you can wait, buy an NV30, but I don't know how well that card of yours can handle UT2003.

The Radeon 9700 can play Doom 3 at 800 x 600 with high detail settings. I'm not sure about AA and AF though, but it will kick a Geforce4s ass in that by crazy amounts.

I say again, if you can wait, check out the NV30 too. But the 9700 is an awesome card.

But like I was saying I'm not going to buy high end card. I was thinking about ti4200-4400 or R9500, should I wait?

I think the Ti4200 is a great card for the price. I'm not too sure if it's worth the extra $30-$60 over an R8500, but it does outperform the R8500 by 5-10% at standard settings. If you like FSAA, 2xFSAA is usable on nearly all games, unlike the Raddy. The only trade-off is low AF performace, at which point the R8500 is the performance champ.

All in all, you can't really go wrong with either card. They are both very powerfull, and both will be able to play DOOM3,

Anything with MX is not worth buying. I think the best deal out there right now is still the Geforce4 Ti 4200. You can get a brand new 128 meg version for like $130. And it is really fast, sometimes at Ti 4600 levels and it only starts to chop up a little at extreme resolutions. It is better than GF3 Ti 500 and is an NV25. I o/c'd mines to 315 Mhz Engine and 600 Mhz Memory. It ran fine. You can't go wrong with the ti 4200 and with all the money you save with it you can sell it when the nv30 comes out and have some money to put towards getting one of those!

I agree, gf4ti4200 is definetly the best deal out there!

It will handle all current & future games with no problems (even DOOM III).

If you're on a high budget, definetly buy the R9700pro, it kicks gf4ti4600's ass hard (especially with AA, Aniso or a combination of both).

If you can wait (like I do), wait for NV30 which will kick ass and compare it to R9700pro and then make a final decision!

Whatever u do, good luck on your buy!

Isn't the DOOM 3 engine built around early nvidia chipsets? I mean, I thought they said that a GF3, the 1st ones, could play the game at real time and all, or 15 fps, I forgot, but anyways, even with that, the GF4 is more than twice as powerful as the GF3, so I think GF4 would be able to play doom 3 real time seeing that you should have a decent rig to put the card into.

Yes, the DOOM III engine is built around the GF1 technology and according to Carmack, fully unleashes itself on NV30.

Carmack said that their target is GF3/XBox level of hardware and that GF3 will run DOOM III with all features enabled at 30fps, so yes, I do think GF4 will be plenty enough for DOOM III!
