Question Is there a solution for Nvidia sound cards?

I have a NVidia sound card with an AMD Turion64X2 Gateway laptop.
nVidia Corporation MCP51 High Definition Audio (rev a2)

snd_hda_intel 352168 1
snd_pcm_oss 39840 0
snd_mixer_oss 16256 1 snd_pcm_oss
snd_pcm 74888 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm_oss
snd_timer 21256 1 snd_pcm
snd_page_alloc 9744 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm
snd_hwdep 9224 1 snd_hda_intel
snd 53608 8 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_pcm,sn d_timer,snd_hwdep
soundcore 8352 1 snd
************************************************** ************************************************

Mepis 6.5 - the sound nor mic worked
Mepis 7 - sound works, but no mic

In Kmix, I lit the record lights red for capture, capture mux (which is what?), and digital (which is what?) - whatever combination didn't work.

Error message from audacity when using ALSA options for recording device: (HDA NVidia: STAC92xx Analog (hw:0,0)
"Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project sample rate."
When using OSS, Audacity will actually lock up.

All this seems similar to an earlier post:

Is there a solution?

The first module snd_hda_intel works with mines. You try alsa conf as root?

You may have to blacklist something?

edit .. forgot I had to change kmix to PCM

Yes I've set ALSA, tried PCM as master channel in kmix (if that's what you mean)
Nothing fixes mic input.

I guess Nvidia people don't answer - over a month and no response.
