I just wanted to contribute some bile towards Creative's 'professional' division, EMu, to this thread. Their driver is presently taking up a gigabyte of my system's memory, which is a bug they deem "Low priority", and haven't even started looking in to yet.

My heart goes out to anyone that doesn't know what a memory leak is, doesn't reboot often, and only has 2GB of RAM.

Thats what im saying is, there driver fixes are low priority to them which is bad business and i hope these startups that are making kick ass cards put Creative in their place.

Creative has fallen way behind the times in soundcards and i know the NF4 was plain garbage so its not all Creatives fault but them not jumping on the fix wagon was bad.

Im happy now with my Xfi champion series with my new rig but could be better.

X-fi is pretty much the best DSP chip, and Auzentech makes very high quality cards, so a card like the Auzentech X-Prelude would probably be "the best".

I've been enjoying my X-fi gaming card, the web drivers are a great full featured driver without the media addon junk, and I havn't had ANY bugs popup.

The AC1 is medium, a few too many propitiatory connectors and not quite worth the price against some of the newer DDL cards.

I take it that this information is "not" first hand? dont always believe everything you read. I have been using Vista 64bit, NF4 plus the XFi since Vista came out and I havent had this problem at all! I'm not saying that the problem doesnt exist, just that there is more to the problem than just those 3 things.

In terms of sound quality, if you are running analogue you need to compare the DACS of each sound card, If using optic, then a DD Live or DTS card is your best bet!
