Default coompiz fusion / nvglx

I have Problems to run compiz fusion on nvglx.
The following Error occurred:

compiz (core) - Fatal: No GLXFBConfig for default depth, this isn't going to work.

Nvidia 169.09
open Suse 10.2
Geforce 6800 GT

it's easier to read english than to write, i guess ... lol

Please try to Help anyway

You might want to look up the information on opensuse.org which tells you what to do to fix the problem. But... if you can't find it... post again and I'll track it down for you. I have my own recipe (much easier than the ones posted) for fusion with kde in opensuse (10.3 though... works better there).

Could you post your recipe please? I just moved to opensuse from kubuntu so I don't know exactly how things work (never came across this problem before). The apparent solutions on some of the opensuse message boards didn't work for me.

I know opensuse.org, this was my first try. Does not work.

So there are three cases:

compiz-fusion on XGL or Aiglx/Xorg ->
-compiz-fusion working but ugly "Tearing Effect"
-"nvidia-settings" not working

compiz-fusion on Nvglx ->
-compiz-fusion : "compiz (core) - Fatal: No GLXFBConfig for default depth, this isn't going to work."
-"nvidia-settings" working

Each case done as descripted on opensuse.org

Hello,

the solution here didn't work?
This is german - I didn't find that at the english version. This solution worked for me so I think it will work for you too.
Just follow the steps under" Probleme mit Compiz ab Treiberversion 169.07".

Greetings
Michael

Hi tilseboy,

I'm from Germany, so this Solution was the first one i have found.
But this didn't work for me ...

the reaction of the line
"LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1 compiz --no-libgl-fallback --replace ccp &"

is

"compiz (core) - Fatal: No GLXFBConfig for default depth, this isn't going to work."

Greetings
Michael

Question Re: coompiz fusion / nvglx

Hmmm...strange.
Did you do it as root as they described it there?
It might be a silly question but I overlooked it first so perhaps....

Greetings

jepp, everything as root.

I wonder if anyone knows what "GLXFBConfig" means....
Very concrete Error message I guess.

hmmmm

Install Nvidia 100.14.19 (newer versions have MAJOR problems, hope you don't need a newer one).

DO NOT use the Nvidia driver from openSUSE. It will be likely be too new. You' ll need kernel sources or headers to build the Nvidia driver downloaded from Nvidia.

Code:
sax2 -m0=nvidia

Use sax2 to tweak things to work with your monitor.

nvidia-xconfig --composite --render-accel --add-argb-glx-visuals -d 24

That command adds some extra entries to your xorg.conf.

Add the following to your .bashrc:

if [ -f ~/.fusion-start ]; then
        KDEWM=/usr/bin/fusion-icon
        export KDEWM
fi

Then touch .fusion-start in your home directory.
I may have left something out... not sure. I need to do a better job of documenting my steps...

Hmm...
"GLXFBConfig" does not sound like a hardware problem.
I have xorg 7.3, kernel 2.6.23.9-rt13, OpenSuSE 10.3 and compiz 0.7.0-5.1.
My card is a 8800 GTS with 320MB.
The GLXFBConfig occured as switched to driver 169.07 and the instructions at opensuse solved it.
So where is the difference?
I attached a screenshot and my xorg.conf, maybe you can find something interesting.

xorg 7.1.99.902, kernel 2.6.18.8-0.9, OpenSuSE 10.2, compiz 0.6.2-3.1, Nvidia 169.09
My card is a 6800 GT with 256MB.

just as information ...
This are the actual versions on the updateserver for opensuse 10.2.

The error occured as switches to 169.07?
I have found 165.33 for download ... i will test this now ...
