Default 169.12 bad colors in videos

In Kaffeine all videos have weird colors, in other players it happens too from time to time.
In Kaffeine I can get colors right if I switch video driver from auto to xv or vice versa. But I have to do this every time for every video. So I guess the issue is somehow related to xvideo and seems to happen more on xine-based players.

This happened since the start of the 16x.x series. The problem goes away if I install 100.14.19.

Attached are 2 screenshots (1st one is smplayer with the correct colors, the right one is kaffeine with the weird blue/wrong colors) to illustrate the issue and the nvidia-bug-report.log.

BTW, this is happening on a GeForce 8500 GT/PCI/SSE2

Check the output of `xvattr -a XV_HUE` in the good and bad cases. I think the default should be 0.

Some video players decide that since the range is 0-255 the default must be the average so they set it to 128.

To change the setting, try the command `xvattr -a XV_HUE -v 0`.

indeed the value is 128 in the bad cases and 0 in the good ones.
and running
xvattr -a XV_HUE -v 0
makes it right in the bad cases too.
thanks for that info.
still I wonder why this happens and why it does not happen on the 100.x.x series of drivers.
and of course:
is there any permanent fix? because that command only works until I open another video with kaffeine, like the switching of xv vs. auto did.

Because the Xv adaptor didn't have hue and saturation knobs in the 100 series drivers.

you can work around the problem by editing the .desktop file for kaffeine startup (or directly in konqueror) from 'kaffeine %U' to 'kaffeine %U && xvattr -a XV_HUE -v 0'. You can also create a "wrapper script" for startup. Same for other xine based players, that's how I did it.
