Default Looking for a laptop

Ok, well I might be replacing my aging laptop soon (1-2 months).

I'm looking for some recommendations.

Here is what I’m looking for:
1) Intel Duo based, because of better battery life (compared to AMD)
2) 15.4 widescreen, 17 inch is too big
3) 2GB or 3GB ram
4) Wireless n
5) Sturdy, but not that heavy
6) Upgradable video card if possible, nothing fancy to start with
7) Good battery life
8) 600-999 dollars

Your hoping for a miracle. lol.. It will be hard to fill those requirements with a 900 dollar budget.
The Alienware does have the M15x with a 8600gt in it for around 1499 with Wireless n, and the GPU will be somehwat futureproof. I have the M15x with the 8800 gtx and the 2.8 extreme processor. I enjoy this laptop and it handles lan parties great. Beats the hell out of dragging my box around.

i don't need 8600gt right now, even basic intel chip will be fine, just to be able to actually replace it for something better.

there should be lots of notebook available at those prices at regular electronics stores like bestbuy. I cannot comment on GPUs though, since most of those have an integrated version. There was even a 17inch notebook for 900 here, but a bad GPU.

There are a ton of options at that price class. My Dell 1420 in my sig was only $999 last August. Something similarly equipped should be < $800 now.

That's probably the Dell 1525. It's slimmer and nicer overall than the 1520. Kick the screen up to either 1440x900 or 1680x1050 and it'll be a nice overall machine.

AFAIK the video is not upgradeable and the 8600GT is the best choice you've got. Dell reserves gaming graphics for the XPS series for the most part.

I'd also recommend the 9-cell battery. Mine gets well over 3 1/2 hours on normal usage.

One more thing...it's pretty heavy. The 1525 is between 5-6lbs. My 1420 is 5lbs and it takes a bit of getting used to if you're switching from a smaller notebook.

Is upgradeable video a common feature in laptops? I know they went through a phase where that was possible, but are they still doing it? I don't think I've seen a laptop video card being sold anywhere online in 4 or 5 years.
