Yeah the Creative forums are a rough place. You have screaming users vowing to never buy another Creative product again, you have the Creative forum staff you constantly let slip tidbits about how the hardware is faulty but there is nothing they can do, then they get gagged.

Do your speakers still hiss when you don't have them hooked up to the sound card? More than likely it's the speakers when the volume is high. I have 3 X-Fi cards and I don't have a hissing issue. Another thing to look into is make sure that you have muted all of your inputs because even if you don't have anything plugged into your line in or mic, it might be picking up interference.

get a usb sound card if you aren't willing to shield your card then. It is very simple.
Or use digital connections, which is not only the best but a perfect solution because you can't get rid of EMI in a PC via any practical means, nor would that fix any crosstalk issues (which are outright unavoidable on the kind of connections creative cards use.) Creative really doesn't like digital connections for god knows what reason. Many other brands have adopted and integrated one of several standards for it.

It's more likely a ****ty Nvidia chipset issue than a Creative one.

Then why do no other cards except creative ones have any issues with the nvidia chipsets? IIRC Nvidia is well within the PCI spec. And also IIRC the snap crackle pop issues have happened on non nvidia boards as well.

Creative can get away with serious engineering f*ckups because they know people will buy their cards anyways. Their quality control department needs some reworking. If you don't believe me, look no further than their drivers.

I'm not praising Creative, Alpha.

I hate them worse than Nvidias chipsets. There is just no great alternative to soundcards since they shut down Aureal. Nvidia chipsets tend to be crap though, you can't deny that. Nforce3 fast writes, Nforce 4 usb 2.0, 680i frying memory, the list goes on.

ASUS Xoner is the way to go. shielded card with highend parts and lighted jacks on the back and a software bundled that gives any soundcard buyer a boner.

haha, asus card uses a moded c-media chip.

c-media got the worst driver support EVER! it only took them over a year to release drivers for their older chips that fully supported vista
