Same here if I decide on the Q but maybe a bit higher fsb.

Otherwise its e8500 till a mobo upgrade next year.

So glad I chose the P5B-D

Base on calculation, here what the Q9450 performance like on 8 x 450 and 8 x 434:

Q9450 Yorkfield 4 8 x 450 3.60 P35 4-5-4-11 @ 900 Windows XP Pro x32 FPS1: 202.48 FPS2: 53.51
Q9450 Yorkfield 4 8 x 434 3.47 P35 4-5-4-11 @ 900 Windows XP Pro x32 FPS1: 195.28 FPS2: 51.61

A 3.47GHz Q9450 on 8 x 434 performed like a 3.91GHz Q6600, 440MHz clock difference.
All the SSE instructions need less clock cycles on Yorkfields

I'm sure that i'll be able to optimize the code of my BR2 patch to run faster with the new SSE4 instructions.

The problem with Quad is most of them max @ a 470 FSB or lower. You need to consider your multi when making a purchase. If I bother with getting another quad I am just going to go QX9650 + 790i. I've seen 4.6GHz on air like that-

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=178546

If do decide to get a dual core to play with for the heck of doing so, I'll grab an E8600 when they are released.

4.6GHz at 1.640V on air 24/7? No way for very high chipset voltage above 1.35V unless you have running it on LN2 24/7 then that will be great but that not for everybody.

If you bought 20 QX9650's and you're lucky, you'd probably get a great overclocker like that. But still vcore is way too high to run at 24/7.

I'm feeling we may find them on the market this week.

Someone managed bought Q9450 and tested it.

http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/sh....php?t=1904644

Wow 17c at idle with Thermalright Ultima 90 cooler.

Also other user Doraemon269 got one too, managed to overclocked it to 3.8GHz at 1.312V on 475MHz FSB using ASUS Striker II Formula motherboard with nForce 780i chipset.

that guy's temps are off. my DFI board reads the same in Smart Guardian and shows my CPU at 17-19C, but that's impossible because my room isnt even that temperature. turns out the actual temp is the system showing so his temps are closer to 44C.

Well .. I was unable to find one ,retail boxed , and did something ,that i never though i will ever do... ordered the extremy one.. ,it just only $450 dollars more.. that i wanted to spend .. LOL@@ Now the question is how im going to explain this to my wife.. LOL

After reading so many postive feedback from average people of on air overclocking and some more luckiers getting 4.3+ ghz!!! ,and more experienced overclokers getting 5ghz with ultra extreme cooling. i just thought i would like to have one too..

I can wait a little more for the 9800gx2.. since all the games i play runs perfectly fine at max settings in my geforce8800gts .

Anyone knows if the q9650 will be able to run guildwars and chessmaster xi fast enough? Crysis what ?

Im also playing enemy territory and plays smoth in the geforce 8800gts at 1680x1020 at 16xq AA +16xAF.
so the decision was more for my 3d apilications that really requires incredible amount of cpu power for anything really interesting.

Well I am really not very happy with my CPU temp at 50c, same with system temp but when I played Assassins Creed for 1 hour then the PC shutdown itself and checked Rivatuner hardware monitoring log to found out the CPU temp was 93c while the system temp was 60c, the GPU core was doing fine at 80c.

Really need Q9450 and Hybrid SLi motherboard soon, my 3 years old Athlon XP 1800+ are far too hot to play Assassins Creed.
