When will the 4k stacks issue get ironed out?

Hey Andy,

Does nVidia have some plan on when/how to deal with the Fedora Core 2 / 2.6.6 kernel 4k-stacks issue?

I.e., in what timeframe can I expect life to be good, so that I can Juse Use FC2 on my nVidia-based laptop?

it will probably be fixed in the next official nvidia driver release. there was talk of drivers possibly being released at the end of may but nothing concrete.

I hope they make a release before that, FC2 will be out this Monday and I hope that I can start using it within one week.

This is not going to be good for the "drivers stay proprietary" case...

Let's not forget that in the next release of drivers, there is the small issue of 6800 support to address . I'm sure that, with product on the shelves, Nvidia are not wasting time in preparing the drivers!

Can't see much alternative to just waiting at this stage.

It is still possible to rebuild the expected Fedora Core 2 kernel (keeping in mind that the latest Rawhide test kernel works.. but the exact FC2 kernel version I don't know yet) so that the current nVIDIA driver works. This is certainly not a solution.. it is a workaround, but I do not think it is something that should keep users from updating to FC2, or installing Fedora for the first time. The necessary info is available on this forum and at fedoraforum.org.. and may soon show up on fedoranews.org.
