Default Asus Striker Extreme Help please

Hello lads, I just finished building my new system on which I intended to apply some heavy overclocking. My new system consists of
Asus Striker Extreme
Intel Q6600 @ 2.4GHz G0 Stepping
OCZ Technology Gold 2x2GB PC6400 2.1V
GeForce 8800GTS 512
750W Thermaltake Toughpower with combined voltage of 60A

The problem is, my asus striker extreme came with 1503 bios which isn't that great for overclocking, it won't let me go anywhere above 2.6GHz! I tried to downgrade using the ez flash utility, asus update utulity and even awdflash. It didn't let me downgrade the bios, no matter what version I tried to downgrade to. I heard of that /f option in the awdflash utility, however I am a bit afraid of forcing the bios downgrade. What would you recommend? Force the bios downgrade process or update to the new 1504 bios version? Speaking of downgrade, I was going to use the 1303 version.

Another thing is that windows xp doesn't recognise the sound card that comes with the board. The device manager shows an unknown PCI Device. I think I tried every possible way of installing the sound drivers, It didn't work.

Well, I guess that's it. I really appreciate any suggestions since I am completely stuck. I have no idea what to do, please help.

I'm not sure how to force it to accept an older BIOS, I don't know if you can. But I ought to pre-warn you that the Extreme is not very good at all with quads. I tried three different Q6600's in my Extreme and never got over 3.0Ghz stable. The same CPU in a P5K did 3.6Ghz easy.

What i'm saying is, if you want high OC's with that board, you're gonna have to go Duo. If you must keep your Quad, get a 780i chipset or if you're not bothered about SLI get an Intel board.

Sorry to piss on your bonfire Why did you get the Extreme over the Striker II Formula?

Yep BIOS 1303 is better for OC. I would use awdflash /f as you suggested.
With mine, i could reach 3.0Ghz with 1303 and not more than 2.8Ghz with 1401.
I had to stick with 1401 otherwise my keyboard (Razer Tarentula) is not detected

My MCP runs at 80C idle, i think the heat pipe is not making proper contact to the north bridge, but i'm too lazy to fix it. I might just get a new mobo, cause this one is teh suxorz

Hopefully you're one of the lucky ones But I and a few others had no luck with quads. Very good with Duo's though.

BTW if you get the 'CPUINIT' text on your LCD poster screen, your board's on it's way out. Mine did 8 months

I never had a problem with anything other then the 'CPUINIT' problem and poor quad OCing. Sound was very good actually. Half price too eh, good stuff.

No sound problem here other than my crippled X-Fi under Vista.

I've got BIOS 1401 and it overclocks to 2.92ghz and that's as high as it gets... I think... anything higher it freezes.

(striker extreme and Q6600 G0)

if you really cant downgrade the BIOS you could always get a new BIOS flashed to an older version. you can find them online at various places.

People, I got it running at 3.3GHz perfectly stable

I managed to flash back to 1303 with no problems at all. I also overclocked memory from 800 to 900mhz.
