Default 9600 GT, WoW, WINE- low fps black screen

Built a new system with quad core processor, 4 gb ram, and 9600 gt gfx (what was i thinking lol). I've installed drivers 171.06 beta (a few times) and the performance in WoW on WINE is worst than my laptops 5200 Go! Im using WINE 0.9.58 and Hardy 64 bit kernel 2.6.22-14. I've placed the settings on low throughout the game and am running in OpenGL with nice set to -16. Also, I've applied the registry tweak GL_ARB_vertex_buffer_object. Despite doing this my FPS in cities can be as low as 8 and outside the fps doesn't go above 60. In glxgears fullscreen the produced fps is about 3500. My driver installation process was as follows:
1. Installed linux headers 2.6.22-14 through synaptic (terminal command didn't seem to work)
2. Edited /etc/default/linux-restricted-modules-common and added DISABLED_MODULES="nv nvidia_new" and DISABLED_MODULES="nv"
3. Ctrl+Alt+F1
4. Login regular
5. sudo killall gdm
6. cd /install/path/to
7. sudo sh 9600.run (what i named it)

Despite all this my fps is incredibly low and in instances i freeze with looping sound (though i understand this may be the design of my card). In Winecfg I don't have ubuntu managing windows, am using OSS, and Windows XP. My PSU advertised 6 pin connector but only came with a 1x Molex-6 pin pcie power adapter so today i opened up the case and replaced the 1xmolex adapter with a 2x molex adapter with no difference. (I heard the 1x could be a bottleneck) Finally I'd like to add im using the DVA-> VGA adapter because the lcd monitor is a few years old. Edit: LoL I forgot to add "Please help". I don't much care if you know the exact problem off hand I'd kind of just like a response. All my posts on ubuntu forums go ignored.

Well you should def. see better performance - running a core2duo e8400 with a 9600gt here and i'm getting 30fps even in an absolute worst case scenario (shattrath at rush hour, 1680x1050, everything maxed in game and 4xAA).
The glxgear score also seems low - getting around 15000 here at default window size.
Running 32bit Ubuntu hardy though - not sure if that makes any difference, no experience with the 64bit flavour...

Maybe post your glxinfo output?

2nd... but maybe a complete nvidia-bug-report.log would be better, because it _sounds_ like mesa/software-rendering...

Chunkey could you elaborate on the mesa/software rendering theory? Im at a loss as to what that could be. (Im still wearing the linux noob brand) also, just to make sure it wasn't the memory i tested each individual stick for an hour with windows memory diagnostic (all tests succeeded). Then I removed each stick and ran glx gears with them individually. One stick actually got me a bit more fps than the other but there could be a lot of reasons for that. Using A-Data DDR2-800 2x2gb.

Then I removed each stick and ran glx gears with them individually. One stick actually got me a bit more fps than the other but there could be a lot of reasons for that. Using A-Data DDR2-800 2x2gb.
well, no.. it isn't mesa/software rendering...
(or you would have "direct rendering: No" instead of Yes...)

The issues seems to be somewhere else... do you have other games?
(especially one with a native linux client like ut2004, doom 3 or quake 4?)

EDIT: ut2004 demo ~77 MB

Are you running a composite manager? If you run "top", do you see any processes other than your game taking up CPU time?

Im kind of not interested in any other games lol. In top a process named "npviewer.bin" occasionally pops up and uses a ton of my cpu %. npviewer.bin and Xorg seem to be only other processes using time.

Just removed compiz and lost my windows too lol. Haven't tested it yet but before i do im going to google around and see if i can get back my windows without installing compiz. Just so I dont screw anything up could someone post a window manager or how to enable a window manager ASAP. Edit: used metacity --replace and i have windows again. But when I ran glxgears the fps is down to 60. That doesn't really concern me right now though because when I start up WoW it won't let me type anything. The keyboard doesn't work in it.

Update: Without Compiz I can no longer start WoW with Metacity on. The FPS is the same if not worse and now after a minute the screen goes black. LoL.
