I'm constrained by:
P4 2.8C Northwood 1 GB PC3200 blah 3-3-3-8 blah ram Sparkle 250W power supply (no 6-pin PCI-E, just molex) Low profile 1-slot SFF case My Gigabyte 6800GT AGP has the fancy heatpipe/fan mount on top so it's too thick and too long. Just wondering if anything nVidia nextgen is a viable solution. Otherwise I might have to buy from the competition. ![]() |

Fanboyism FTL
go with whatever is better and feels no pains about it. Find out the cpu bottleneck point before you buy though ,No need to waste money on a high end agp. Wait , Low profile AGP "next gen" !! How much choice do you have there?

Well, nextgen would be anything higher than GeForce FX technology. Probably a 7300GT would fit the bill, but a 6600GT would be way cheaper.

yep. and the 6200 is not an upgrade from the 5700.
It sounds like it's time for you to get a new computer.

used to have a xfx7950 512mb agp. POS! .. died after 10min, and replacement card also died after just 10min. So there are faster solutions, but dunno if they are what I would consider reliable >_> |

Like this one for example: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16814129076 ![]() Due to the PCB being so small, you can't fit highend hardware on them (with lots of ram and huge coolers) , thus you are limited to lowend budget cards. You often see them in simple workstations or office computers. Even if Treason could fit a highend AGP card in his puter, his PSU would be too weak. The xfx cards I had required 18 or 20amps iirc, that would require a minimum of 218w on the 12v rail to the gfx card alone. |

to OP, been looking a bit for ya, nVidia dont have any agp versions of there 8xxx series and up. Couldnt even find a 7xxx series lowprofile agp.
If you had pci-e then a 8400 would be best i supose (dunno if 8500 is lowprofile, but it's the same gpu as 8400) I red in an article that the 8400 has some decent OC potential, but to get the most out of it you have to V-mod it and slap a big cooler on it. So maybe you should build a new more future proof rig. Or perhaps buy a used one. |
