Displaying a static 2D desktop, not even animated gifs or icons.

MUCH more power under "nv", and with no X11, and power goes down when starting an X11 server with NVidia's binary driver.

As others have said: bullcrap. I'm running Vista Ultimate with Aero (I have a strange craving for a bubbly chocolate now) on, and have no problems at all with anything. HL2:E2 runs fine, GTA:VC is fine, Portal runs fine. The only game I have issues with is GTA:SA, but it's problematic for anyone anytime.

Sure, but still doesn't explain why it's fine in Vista and fine in Linux with the nv driver.
I personally can't remember trying at stock speeds, but I think I did.
