White were informants IIRC. It makes sense since her emails alone sort of gave it away.

Default Re: Assassin's Creed Feedback Thread

I just started playing this and the aliasing is making my eyes bleed.

I can turn on 4xAA by editing the assassin.ini, but it doesn't seem to affect 90% of the scene. Is it possible to force a more effective anti-aliasing mode in the DX10 version of this game? I have nhancer but none of the settings in the nvidia control panel seem to work so I doubt they'll work using nhancer either.

Is there some kind of DX10 AA compatibility mode I can use for this game?

EDIT: Just tried a dozen different AA settings in nhancer in both DX9 and DX10 and nothing seems to override the standard 4xAA that the game applies, which doesn't seem to work on most of the scenery.

I was just messing with the CP and have found out that forcing Transparency AA works (supersampling)
But forcing AA did not work (tried enhancing 16xQ when in the game the AA was set to 2 and 3 and looked the same) - but setting it to 3 ingame seems to remove most of the jaggies, I wonder how much AA is 3.
Forcing AF does work as well, 8x and 16x look the same... maybe 16x is more noticeable in certain areas
That's in XP

Game runs great at max settings and AF forced @ 1680x1050

However, shadows edges look a bit pixelated, I read its not an issue with DX10

And I also notice sort of weird lines throughout the game... I added a picture as an example, though it does look bad sometimes ingame

First picture is with a bit of those, then you can see what im talking about on the 2nd picture, when I move the camera.

Any idea why is this?

Also added 2 more screenshots as an example of supersampling transparency aa (in both of them AA is set to 3). I Wish all games ran so smooth with AA options turned on...
I'm going to tear my hair out.

Transparency AA does not work in this game for me.

I'm using 191.07 drivers and the latest version of nhancer.

For some reason, I don't have an assassin's creed profile in the nvidia control panel any more. It shows up in nhancer though. I'm not sure if this is related.

I know, it was there before.

I fixed it though.

nhancer must have messed up the profile somehow. I went back into nhancer and had it reset the profile to its default state and all of the profiles appeared in the nvidia panel again.

Forcing super sampling transparency AA doesn't work in DX10 but it actually works in DX9 mode.

Looks 100x better but it slows it down too much for me with 4xAA. When I set it to 2x (multisampling=1 in assassin.ini) it still helps a lot and doesn't isn't nearly as slow as 4x with supersampling.

I'll see if multisampling transparency AA works and if the performance\quality trade off is worth it.

I'm just glad I figured this out. I was trying to get into the game but almost every edge in the game is covered in sprites of some sort so there were pixels flashing everywhere.

EDIT: 4x AA with multisampling transparency AA seems to be the best option for my system. Even with only 2x supersampling my system slows down a bit too much for my liking when there is a lot of foliage up close. 4x with multisampling transparency doesn't seem to have any effect on performance no matter what the situation but it does help a bit with the jagged sprites. Not as much as 2x supersampling but its not bad.

Also, I dropped the resolution to 1920x1080 since it letterboxes the screen anyway. I don't know if that helps with performance at all but since my screen does 1:1 mapping, it can't hurt.

... I wonder if GT300 can manage 60fps constant at 1920x1080 with 4x super sampling TAA in this game.

I never tried it with SSAA... might have to do so, though last I recall the game still ran merely ok at max settings.

Without SSAA it runs beautifully for me. Really, I'm surprised how nice it runs.

I did turn off the post FX since it wasn't all that noticeable and I'd rather have better framerates and AA.

Its amazing how much my priorities have changed since getting an LCD. With my 22" CRT at 1600x1200 I rarely even noticed any aliasing in most games, and at 2048x1536 it was practically nonexistent. The pixels were just so much smaller and the screen wasn't nearly as sharp as an LCD. I used to not even care about AA. Now its the first thing I have to turn on when I play any game.

Exact same thing with me, pretty much. First that drives me nuts on console games as well.
