I honestly don't think you will see much difference. I got a noticable boost from a 640mb GTS to a 9800GTX, but the g92 GTS would have been a boost for me too. Just mho.

Same here.

I would go for the 9800GTX for that price though. You should be able to get a bit better of a overclock with the 9800.

My 8800gtx started to artifact yesterday so I called EVGA and it was determined that it was defective any wayís I picked up a BFG O/C 9800GTX at Best Buy while I do the advanced RMA, and then sell the 8800GTX on EBay when I get it back from RMA..

I played with the 9800GTX today the first things I noticed are the temps around 10c less in heat around 56c to 60c idle the 8800GTX would idle around 70c it makes a nice difference in my Cosmo case which gets pretty hot so that was a nice plus.

The other thing I notice was the fan noise when idle it's barely audible but if you set it to 100% fan speed using Ntune itís pretty loud.

The performances of the 2 are pretty even with the 9800GTX ever so slightly it almost reminds me of when I owned an ATI 9700 then upgraded to a 9800 for those that can relate. Itís ever so slightly faster but not by much I played ETQW and got about a 2 to 5 fps, and thatís it so far.

I will keep the 9800GTX and then again off the 8800GTX on EBay for the reason I mentioned above so in all pretty happy with it for other reasons, other than speed but I pretty much knew that going into it.

Paid for the Step Up and shipped the card earlier today (Wednesday). Should be there Tue/Wed next week. I guess it's too late to back out now, is it not?

Quick update on my GTX with Vista 64bit SP1.

On rig in sig, 175.51 drivers - performance is on par with XP x86, on par being + or - 1-3%.

Crysis DX9 (DX10 unplayable at same settings)
GoW
HL2 + ep1 + ep2
3dmark06 (basic)
Timeshift
Halo2
FEAR

No pausing or stuttering
No freezes
No BSODs

No hanging with Dreamscene.

Desktop and all apps very responsive.

grey's a happy camper.

I have a 250w power express with 2x6 pins,will that work with a 9800GTX?

I'm still not sure its worth upgrading though.

Can somebody re-create this bench in Vista so I can compare?
Vista 64
Beginning Run #1 on Map-island, Demo-benchmark_gpu
DX10 1680x1050, AA=2x, Vsync=Disabled, 64 bit test, FullScreen
Demo Loops=2, Time Of Day= 9
Global Game Quality: VeryHigh
