Default Dust and Computers.

How do you handle it? What do you do to limit it?

A computer doesn't run well without a good coat of dust on it to keep it warm in the winter.

I put small mesh filters on all of my intake areas and occasionally take an a non-heat hair dryer and blow it out while vacuuming the ambient dust.

Or fans with dust filters, blowing into the case. Then again, filters usually limit the throughput capacity of the fans, which in turn would require you to have them spin faster and have them make more noise.

The best thing you can do for dust is to not put your computer on or near the floor. My main rig is sitting on my desk and it barely collects dust at all whereas my linux server which sits on the floor beside my desk is a dust trap. I have dust filters on it, which I have to clean out every month or so because they're completely clogged up.

And Joe Public has it right, dust filters significantly impact air flow (restrict it) so you need higher speed fans, which leads to more noise.

When I do clean out the inside of my rig though, I just take a can of compressed air and blow it around inside. Voila.

I think that means that it helps for people who get too much dust in their lungs. I once cleaned out my Dell and my chest started hurting because I had too much dust in my lungs.

leaving a large space between the fan and the filter helps to overcome the reduced throughput,Filter butted up against fan isn't good.

I have a hoover attachment with a little brush I use to clean out the case dust and filters, Its the only housework I do
No death by static yet.
