Default Supported graphics mode "not valid"

I've tried to use both the latest stable and beta drivers, but the 1280x1024 mode which is supported by my monitor and the "nv" X driver configuration gets rejected by the nvidia driver:

The following is the X log file, snipped of some sections I thought were not relevant to fit within the post size limit.

My config file is:
Quote:
Option "Emulate3Buttons" "no"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection

Section "InputDevice"

# generated from default
Identifier "Keyboard0"
Driver "kbd"
EndSection

Section "Monitor"

SubSection "Display"
Depth 24
Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
EndSubSection
EndSection
I suspect the problem may be with the EDID from the Dell E173FP because it couldn't detect the refresh rates either; I had to add them manually to get anything over 800x600!

The chipset is 00:12.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation GeForce 7050 PV / nForce 630a (rev a2) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])

Can anyone help? Thanks
