Default Xorg periodically crashes with 169.07 driver

At the use of new 169.07 driver, Xorg Server periodically crashes. Repeating crash is not possible, because they are arbitrary. Most often crashing arises up at closing of window. (Used "compiz-0.6.2" window manager)

From your nvidia-bug-report.log
Code:
Scanning kernel log files for NVRM messages:

  /var/log/messages:
Jan 13 00:03:41 inspirra kernel: NVRM: API mismatch: the client has the version 169.07, but
Jan 13 00:03:41 inspirra kernel: NVRM: this kernel module has the version 100.14.23. Please
Jan 13 00:03:41 inspirra kernel: NVRM: make sure that this kernel module and all NVIDIA driver
Jan 13 00:03:41 inspirra kernel: NVRM: components have the same version.

It is not it is not, excuse me, but it is old reports (NVRM). These reports were yet to the restart of the system. It is visible on the date of load from Xorg.0.log.old. These errors happened because I did not stop a X-server when installed a new driver.

Code:
Jan 13 00:03:41 inspirra kernel: NVRM: API mismatch: the client has the version 169.07, but
Code:
(==) Log file: "/var/log/Xorg.0.log", Time: Sun Jan 13 00:53:21 2008

If it is necessary, I can again install this driver and wait till the crash of X-server and generate a new report?

Sorry for my English.

An updated nvidia-bug-report.log file might help, but it would be even more helpful if you could run X from within gdb, catch the crash and capture/attach the stack trace; alternatively, you can have X dump a core file and then use gdb to get a stack trace.

1. Crash
- Before the crash: nvidia-bug-report.1.log
- Crach: Xorg.0.log.old.log (kdm overloads x-server after crash, therefore I bring an old log.)
- After the first crash: nvidia-bug-report.2.log

2. Crash
- Before the crash: nvidia-bug-report.3.log
- After the second crash: nvidia-bug-report.4.log

Unfortunately I do not know how to use a debugger, but I will make an attempt, later. As yet do not succeed to compile xorg-server if enable debugging.

You don't necessarily need to build an X server with DEBUG information (the NVIDIA X driver module doesn't have DEBUG information). As a first step, getting a backtrace with a regular Xorg build would be sufficient to get a sense for the type and location of the crash.

Default Re: Xorg periodically crashes with 169.07-171.06 drivers

At the use of 171.06 driver, Xorg Server periodically crashes.
Repeating crash is not possible, because they are arbitrary, but crash always happened only if I click the mouse on some buttons in QT-programms which cause opening of new dialog window or closing of this window.

$ uname -rms ; pkg_info -Ex compiz-0.7.4 xorg-server nvidia-driver
FreeBSD 7.0-STABLE i386
compiz-0.7.4
nvidia-driver-171.06
xorg-server-1.4_7,1

Probably I found how to show a problem.

Сrash takes place if to close a window and simultaneously with it a new window will be opened.
It very often shows up during work with the "k3b" or by the "kopete".

I made an attempt to create a sequence at which a crash takes place with large probability.

k3b (Repetition is 30%):
================================================
root$ su USER -c 'sleep 2 ; xterm' & Xorg
xterm# compiz --replace ccp --loose-binding --use-root-window
xterm# perl -i.b1 -pe 's/(hide main window while writing)=false/\1=true/' ~/.kde/share/config/k3brc
xterm# perl -i.b2 -pe 's/(only_create_image)=false/\1=true/' ~/.kde/share/config/k3brc
xterm# dd if=/dev/zero of=/var/tmp/for_k3b_test bs=1m count=100
xterm# k3b --burn --datacd /var/tmp/for_k3b_test
- I push "Start";
- after a burning, I press "Close" and...
=====
Fatal server error:
Caught signal 11. Server aborting
=====
================================================

* But if to use "hide main window while writing=false" a crash does not take place. Because after a burning, there is not closing of dialog-window and simultaneous opening of main window again, because a main window was not closed.
================================================

kopete (Repetition is 30%):
========================================
- I receive message;
- Kopete show "bubble";
- I push button "View" and...
=====
Fatal server error:
Caught signal 11. Server aborting
=====
========================================

* If disable "show bubble" a crash does not take place.
========================================

With the nvidia-driver of version 100.14.23 and below this problem is not present - all works fine, without crashes.

Sorry for my English.
