Default So I have $200.....

And I was going to get a new vid card. Right now my thoughts are on the Gainward 4200 golden sample card, but I'm looking for feedback.

In otherwords: which card would you get? or which card do you have that you really like? The 4600 and the 9700 are obviously out.

Thanks in advance.

I got a Gainward 4200 64MB and i like it. However, since ya got 200 bucks, you could get yourself a Ti4400. Many of them are at about $190.

If you can get a Ti4400 for under $200 (which you can at many places) then that's what you should buy. Once you have the card, overclock it to Ti4600 levels and you'll have a monster gaming card for a budget price.

No, go to ebay, there you will find geforce 4 ti 4600s for 200 dollars. And if you wait 1 month, they will be even cheaper.

Default How soon?

I understand that prices will be dropping with the release of the 9700 but I don't necessarily want to wait a month. If I could get a Geforce 4 Ti4600 for $200 in a couple weeks I might wait. I don't feel comfortable buying something like this from someone who I don't know and who's credentials may or may not be made up. I prefer to buy from a store so there is someone to go back to if there is a problem. So let me know how soon you think prices will drop and why?

There is also the Albatron ti4200p turbo which uses a ti4600 pcb and 3.3ns memory for less than 200 dlls.

It should overclock past ti4600 speeds easily.

Asus also has V8420S with the same specs.

Default Asus cards

Supposedly the Asus cards with the 8 layer PCB will only be about $10 more. That is still about $180 - $190 for a G4 4200.

Here's the catch though. If I get a 4600 card, doesn't that overclock as well? I think if I get that I extend the life of the video card for a bit longer than just getting a 4200 for basically $40 more. Is it worth it? Maybe.

Question now is how sooon prices will drop and by how much? Any thoughts?
