Question q9450 temp question

well, i built my pc yesterday and put artic silver 5 on the cpu (i think i did it properly 90% sure) then mouting mine blue orb 120 nm fan onto the cpu then did the rest the pc runs fine but i'm slightly worryed about the tempatures due to they seem alittle high for 45nm

the case has 2 massive 250mm nm fans and 1 120 nm (back) all of them work, the motherboard temp is idle at 37c and graphics idles at 57-58c but the cpu idles at 59-60c acroding the nvida tools and on load rises to 70c

but real temp shows anther story about 60 on load and 50 idle...

my specs are

xfx 780i mother board
a380 twin engine case
4 gb Patriot Viper (PC2 8500)
q9450
evga 8800 gts ko (512) (g92)
Thermaltake CL-P0257 Blue orb II (cpu fan)

anyway hope you can tell me if this is normal for a new build?

The T junction max for this chip appears to be 105C, but don't quote me on that. My temps seem to be around yours and I was wondering the same thing.

Those temps do seem too high if the digital thermal senors are accurate and properly calibrated at factory, but since a significant number of 45nm CPUs from Intel have some kind of sensor problems, it's hard to say. One thing I'm sure is that it's not your mohterboard since Real Temp reads off of the DTS on the cores directly, which are not affected by system BIOS. Nvidia Tools reads from the BIOS so it's not accurate at all. Anyways, you can try reseating the cooler and see if there's any difference.

alright, i will attempt a reseat later see if i can get it down to 48 idle at best or even 46

the cpu should run at 38 idle and 50-60 load with good airflow and cooler. thats best.

do you think it's a lack of themal pase on the cpu? if it's not the seating?

also how do you get 4 gb Patriot Viper (PC2 8500) to run at 1066???

what tools can i use to check the clock speed and change it to 1066? effectively?

The 780i is picky about memory. I had 4x1GB of PC8500 memory and I couldn't run them at 1066 no matter what I did.

Regarding the thermal paste, since you're using AS5, make sure you apply a thin horizontal line across the middle of the integrated heat spreader and don't spread. For more information click the link below:

95C is for the 45nm dualies. 105C for quads.

It's 105C for C0 stepping QX9650, as people have tested by setting the Core Temp temps to show delta to TJMax and the CPU shuts down around 0. I guess it depends on the CPU stepping.

Well, that's not exactly the Q9450 now is it?
