Default Error:Your appear to be running an X server

hi! i'm trying to install the nvidia driver on my laptopt (fedora) in order to enable the desktop effects. But when i type: sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-100.14.09-pkg1.run an error message shows up saying: Your appear to be running an X server ...

Any idea??

Thankx

Might want to repost this in the Nvidia linux section.

But to answer your question, X can run whether you have a desktop or not.

Not sure about Fedora, but I'll take a stab.

ctrl+alt+F1 -->kills your gui

log in as root, not sure if FC uses 'sudo', but as root..

'telinit 3' if memory serves...will stop X for you.

Install drivers then 'startx'

Sorry if that's off, haven't used FC for a while.

Also try googling "Killing X in FC 8" or whichever version you are running.

I remember having an issue with it back when also.

There's always ctrl+alt+backspace...not the recommended way to kill x, but usually works.
