Default Strange performance problem solved by activating backing stores

For months I was having this very odd performance problem where audacious (or any other music player) would skip when I simply moved the mouse into and out of windows repeatedly, or when I was changing workspaces. This was the result of the CPU usage spiking for simple focus changes. It should have occurred me to check whether backing stores were available, but I evidently believed this was the default in any modern X driver. In fact, it is not in both the nvidia and radeonhd drivers (the only two I use).

For nvidia, you need to add Option "BackingStore" "true" to your Device section.

Should this not be the default nowadays? I can't imagine this will cause significant memory pressure for most people, while it can have a major performance impact.

There won't be many memory issues with people, but it does cause artifacts on my 8600 and there are not real performance benefits that I've noticed, but it might be helpful for some if you explained what your pc specs are...
