Override EDID?

I have a video projector connected to my FreeBSD server though a Pioneer VSX-92TXH amplifier. The Amp is returning an EDID that doesn't agree with the resolution and video timing of the projector -- is there a straight-forward way to override it?

The big problem is that the amp returns a resolution of 1920x1080, so the video card is trying to scale the image for the projector. There is also an overscan problem since the hsync and vsync aren't quite correct.

Any suggestions? Do I need to connect the machine directly to the projector long enough to capture an EDID file?

You can use the CustomEDID X driver option (see e.g. http://us.download.nvidia.com/freebs...pendix-f.html). You can save the display's EDID using `nvidia-settings` using the 'Acquire EDID...' button on the display's information page. Please be sure to update the EDID's checksum after modifying it or the NVIDIA X driver will reject it.

I was hoping there was a way around that, there isn't a trivial way for me to connect the computer directly to the projector, without tracking down a 15' DVI->HDMI cable. Unfortunately, from the server I only see the EDID of the amplifier, not the projector itself.

Ok, I was able to extract my EDID directly from the projector, but things still aren't working correctly. It seems that the graphics card wants to drive my projector at 1920x1080, even though the native resolution is only 1280x720. The projector does support 1080i, but 720p gives a much better secret. What is the magic incantation to make this this support 1280x720 w/o scaling the image?

An added problem, I am also getting significant overscan on he projector, to the point that I lose the KDE menu bar and task bar.

Any suggestions? I have attached the EDID from my Panasonic AE-900U.
