I've connected an Xbox 360 to my Acer 22" (1680x1050) max res monitor via the VGA cable. However, GTA IV just looks awful, as do the other games I have. Today I connected to my 13" TV and was blown away, at 480P it looks so much better than any other res on my monitor. I then connected to my 27" and again no blurring, no low res stuff that is really nasty on the Acer 22" - even though neither TV are HD.
So has anyone else run into this? I dont feel like buying a bigger TV to game on with this but it's about 300x better than using the VGA and connecting to my monitor like I have been. My 360 is up to date, pins are all good on the cable - granted there is nothing on the 360 that would be native to my monitor but I've tried 1280x1024 widescreen, 720P, etc, etc. I tried all resolutions so its nothing to do with that, the 360 just looks like ass on my Acer 22" monitor. Is there anything I'm missing? |

Well on the TVs Im using the component cable, but as you know PC monitors dont have component inputs - thus the use of the VGA cable. |

that being said, i have played GoW on a 13" TV and it looked amazing as well. probably because the pixels are so compressed. if you took your monitor and shrank the image down to 17", itd probably look just as good. |

maybe, I notice the framerate on the monitor actually looks slower than on a TV too. Prolly something to do with refresh rates. I guess I'm buying a TV for the 360, shame so many other people said their monitors looks great with an xbox 360 connected to it. Well on my 27" TV it looks worlds better than the monitor too. After googling its about 50/50, half of them complain it looks like crap, the other say its wonderful. |

I'm probably in the middle of that 50/50
I have a Dell 24" widescreen and I use VGA. I get to use my monitors native 1080p resolution (1:1) and some games look amazing, some games look worse than on SD screens. I think it's simply because of the difference between TVs and monitors and the colors and jaggies of the game. Some will look great on both, some benefit from better contrast of an SD TV My monitor also has component hookups, but I use VGA. Component doesn't come in 1080p on this monitor for some reason, so I'm stuck using a smaller resolution which didn't look as nice when I tried it the first time. Maybe I'll try it out again, it's been awhile... Edit: VGA ftw, most assuredly K

I tried hooking up my 360 to my PC monitor once and it looked terrible... I guess I could try an HDMI connection nor through a DVI adapter, but I'm too lazy.

Is your TV a CRT and your monitor a LCD? Last LCD I tried to use (for PC gaming) made everything look way worse too.
Now I use CRTs for both my consoles and PC. However, when it finally comes time to upgrade hopefully OLED will be out and well 'settled', if not I'll have to go plasma probably. |

Are you using the Microsoft AV cable or some third party cable, because that could be the difference. |
