Truthfully the onboard sound has gotten so good and so full of features (5.1, optical SPDIF outputs, etc) and Vista is so full of sound related software/features that I doubt I'll ever buy a dedicated sound card again.

Which is nice because it keeps my PC pretty barebones, the motherboard/CPU/RAM and the vid card!! (plus HDD and DVD-ROM of course, but even those are starting to seem like dinosaurs now with digital distribution of games/movies and the SSD drives...)

Yeah i use onboard sound too.

All intel boards, especially the Extreme editions have perfect onboard without any bull**** with driver problems and stuff.

Hassle free, just sit back and enjoy

Well I'm pretty much winding down playing Fallout 3 and thinking of coming back to playing LOTRO after almost 2 months...

What is the good driver for the game nowadays under Vista32? Is it still 178.24, or have any of the newer 180 series drivers fixed up the issues with dynamic shadows yet?

Can't tell you because I have an ATI card, but take a look at technical assistance forum of the game, there are threads discussing the dynamic shadows problem with nVidia cards. It looks like with 181.22 WHQL shadows are still broken and people is still using 17X drivers for this game in DX10.

After my upgrade from an old 965 chipset motherboard with a Q6600 to my current X58 with i7 processor, Lord of the Rings Online has got a *HUGE* improvement in minimum framerates, it only drops from 60 fps (1920x1200, DX10 everything maxed, 4xAA, vsync) in very crowded places like 21st hall, or the Rivendell bridge. It looks like the X58 and the i7 really push multiGPU systems.

jcossin,

182.05 and 182.08 both fix the shadows issue with DX10. It looks and runs amazing!

I am currently running 182.08, no issues at all.

About time, I wonder why took so long nVidia to fix DX10 shadows, when it worked perfectly some months ago. I hate when fixed old bugs appear again in a later driver revision
