Default Re: LotRO DX10 Client = BOING!!1!11!!

gogamer.com had the collector's edition for $6.90 the other day so I picked it up, should be here in a few days.

I've been away from MMORPGs for awhile but I've been playing the Witcher a lot lately and it got me itching for more RPG online fun!

So how is this game? Should I be trying out the DX10 mode? Is it going to take hours and hours to patch it up once I load it out of the box? Are there still a lot of people playing? Any particular server I should pick when I start up?

In Europe I play on Evernight server, there are lots of people playing there. If you are from USA another people should tell which server to choose.

You will have to download quite a few patches, the game on DVD has got tons of additions. You can download the trial version and start playing for two weeks, and when you get the game you can continue using your trial character.

This game will entertain you if you LOVE Tolkien and his world, if it wasn't Middle Earth based I would had left it months ago. People is more mature than in WoW (I haven't found stupid kids on my server).

The DX10 mode has worked great until Book 14, not sure if they will fix it before Mines of Moria expansion arrives in november, I would use DX9 now.

If you're playing on US servers, I believe Brandywine has the highest population. Elendilmir has the largest PvMP community as far as I know. So if you want to do some PvMP I would recommend starting on Elendilmir.

DX10 performance is okay, but isn't as good pre-book 13. There will be a large update starting from your DVDs. I recommend doing something else for a bit when updating.

Thanks guys.

What is PvMP? I know PvE and PvP.

As far as PvP goes, is this one of those games where I can PvE in a protected manner and only PvP when I choose? I hated WoW because I played on a PvP server and could be ganked everywhere which always sucked, especially when they rolled out the so called "honor points"... UGH...

PvMP means Player vs Monster Players, so it's PvP. You can create a lvl50 monster and fight "normal" players on a special zone called Ettenmoors. Once you leave your "base" in Ettermoors you can be attacked by any enemy player: If you enter Ettenmoors with your "normal" character, you would fight monster players. Or if you enter with your monster, you would fight "normal" players.

Outside Ettenmoors there is no PvP, but you can ask anyone to "spar" with you, that's some kind of "fight training", and both players must agree. If you are defeated in a spar, you don't die.

If you lose a spar, you just might die a little inside. Until there is nothing left, but a hollow shell of your former self.

Very fun game so far! I need to get a handle on my PC reboots with my 4870X2 and then I'll really get into this one!

Thanks for the suggestion of downloading the demo before my box copy shows up. It helped me jumpstart getting my PC ready and checking the game out a little...

Look at your PSU, and the power cables that go to your x2 card, I had the same issues with an 800W PSU, and all I had to do is a bit of cable swapping, now my system is rock solid.

So this game is fun, but I'm finding there is no one around to group in a fellowship for the lower level quests...

I got lucky in finishing one on my own, but the one I am on new (rescuing the elf from the ship) is impossible on my own and when I LFF, there's no one...

I'll play at least through the trial 14 days, but if I don't come across more people on the server I might have to pass on this one and check out Warhammer I guess...

Is there an easy way to tell the number of people logged on a server? (I'm on Brandywine)

First thing you should do is join a Kinship, mine for example has a lot of people with new alter characters that start from lvl1 again, and they group for lower level quests. Yesterday I was in a raid in Helegrod (lvl 50, 24 man) and there was another group doing Epic Book 3.

Once you are in a kinship there are people that don't mind to repeat already done quests (I have done it myself) to help their mates. To fin all people in your zone, you must open the social panel (key O), there you can check if they are in a fellowship, or what quest they are trying to do (if they set it on they quest panel)
