Thanks for the benchies Nekro.
i also have 500gb seagate freeagent esata hard drive, and trust me never again will i buy a retail external drive again. not only that is slow, with usb transfer is about 28-37mb/s with esata it goes to about 48-60mb/s. when same drive internally can do about 72mb/s. Plus after few minutes of use it gets some extreme temps.

just remember WD GP 1TB is not really that fast drive compared to ther 1TB drives on the market.

GP 1TB is excellent drive for external use, but i wouldn't use one internally.

It uses 2 SATA II ports on the ICH10, they are almost maxed out at 300 MB/s per port.
We need SATA 6Gbps now!

That's crazy and an extreme box you have.

Just picked up 4 OCZ Vertex SSDs to play with, 230mb/s read, 135mb/s write speed apiece. 64MB onboard cache on each. Putting them in a Raid0 and hoping to break 500 mb/s like yourself if I'm lucky.

Just need to clear my optical drives off the controller to free up some bandwidth, so I also invested in a 1x PCI-E sata card to hook those up to since I don't have a spare PCI-E 4x for a raid card.

Are you using the on-board controller?

Yes, i use the onboard controller (ICH10). With 4 SSDs in Raid 0 , you should be able to get into the 800MB/sec with an Areca Raid ctlr.

The Vertexes are excellent SSDs, i have a a GSkill Indilinx 128GB (same as Vertex) on my laptop, very pleased with the performances.

Using HD Tach I get about 155 on my two WD 250GB SE16 SATA2 drives and 220 on my Seagate 320GB SATA2 drive.

I plan on using the Seagate for Windows 7.
