A question about the PC version, does the game have a working economy yet, or do you already have way more money than you have a use for early on in the game?

Epic just has that with their engine so you're not sitting at a loading screen as long, as they pushed "no loading" a good bit during their tech demos.
Texture streaming. It was pretty bad on the 360 version, and the 360 version did some really odd stuff. You'd be in a conversation with a character (flipping back and forth), and when the view went to the one character it would take a few seconds to load the better textures, it would flip back and now the other character would load, then go back to the first and load all over again! It really seemed like a bug, because sometimes it worked properly.

I love the design in this game. Some areas are just breathtaking. Nice wide open spaces, I've been exploring for hours and I'm sure I haven't even made a dent in the game. I agree there are some textures that don't look as good as others but 99% of what I've seen looks spectacular. The details on most of the characters is very nice.

The game looks amazing, plays great. XP, 175.80, smooth as butter. Blows the 360 graphics outta the water...

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but if anyone is having installation issues, this should help:

http://ve3d.ign.com/articles/news/39...ll-Mass-Effect

Quote:
You will need:
1) access to the contents of the data directory (either off CD, download, temp files, etc)
2) WinRar or 7zip or any tool that can extract .rar files.

Steps:
1) Create a folder on your system somewhere. Default for the installer is "C:\Program Files\Mass Effect\" or a games folder.
2) Open each .rar file in the utility chosen (WinRar for e.g.)
3) Extract each .rar file into this folder. If you are using an English build, you won't need to extract any .rar file that has a different language code (_es, _fr, _de, _it, etc)
4) After extracting all files, your folder should look like this:
...\Mass Effect\Binaries\
...\Mass Effect\BioGame\
...\Mass Effect\data\
...\Mass Effect\docs\
...\Mass Effect\Engine\
...\Mass Effect\MassEffectLauncher.exe

5) Run the MassEffectLauncher.exe and quit immediately.
6) Run the "Mass Effect (tm)_code.exe" from the data folder. Enter your CD Key, click next, it will exit out.
7) Run the Launcher again, hit "Config". under the "Repair" tab, you can re-create your shortcuts if running XP. If running Vista, I'm sorry, you can't add the game to the Game Explorer in these instructions.
9) Quit back to the launcher.
10) Play! (everything should work nicely now)
... hopefully this isn't too widespread.

I'm having a hard time with combat. I've landed on 3 different planets now and I'm getting pwned by a rocky mountain squad from hell. There are lasers and crap blowing up all over the freaking place. They seem to have some sort of slowish moving rocket launchers that have some darn good splash damage. In this narrow granite path, even if I'm ducked behind cover, 3 rockets detonated near me and I'm blurry dead.

I'm trying to use Spacebar and give orders to my teammates but they're not very helpful. Their special powers are kind useless being that they are close range radius effect. (Note to self, turn autolevel off for teammates.)

Sure could use an air assault about now....

I ask because, as I said, the screens posted here do not look any better. If there is more than just higher resolution options it might speed up my desire to rebuy the game, but right now I don't see it.

No texture popping, higher resolution textures in some places, AA, AF, higher resolution, vsync, higher fps, faster load times, better UI.

Edit: In my continued crussade against onscreen HUDs I've managed to turn the ME HUD off. Open the bioinput.ini and add "ConsoleKey=Tilde" and "TypeKey=Tab" under the [Engine.Console] heading. Save the ini and start up the game. Press "tab" or "~" to bring up the console and then type "showhud". I'm going to bind it to a key so I can toggle the HUD on/off as I please. This is also usefull for taking screenshots.

Additionally, you can display the fps with "stat fps". The "viewmode" commands appear to be working also. I've also read reports that several "give" type commands are working. I'm more interested in graphical tweaks so if you want to know the cheat commands you'll have to get em yourself.
