Story-wise, there are a lot of parallels. I like them both. Of course that's a matter of opinion, I won't argue there. But saying KotOR is longer is just not true...a full playthrough of KotOR, all side quests completed, takes me about 12-15 hours. In Mass Effect it takes me about 21-22 hours. That's with me already knowing the location of all the major areas, quests, etc. "More planets" is equally untrue - in fact there are basically the same number of locations of plot interest in both games, and Mass Effect's areas are larger in scale by a great deal - especially Feros and Noveria. That's ignoring the uncharted worlds, which I will agree add a superficial sense of size to the game world. Each of the "main worlds" takes about the same amount of time to complete in both games. It all depends on how much time you spend talking to NPCs and that sort of thing.

Both games are extremely similar in almost all respects - I view Mass Effect as a spiritual successor to KotOR, with improved presentation and some more original storyline/gameplay elements. I know it's all a matter of taste but some of your criticisms are flat out untrue, I felt like I had to say something for those who haven't tried the game yet.

Granted this isn't a full-fledged fix, but it works for now.

Open up BIOEngine.ini in your \Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect\Config directory in Windows XP, or \Users\[User]\Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect\Config in Windows Vista.

Find DepthBias=.012000 under the [Engine.GameEngine] section. Then change DepthBias=.012000 to DepthBias=0.030000.

This should tone down the shadows on the faces a bit but still retain the dynamic shadows on characters in the whole game. Still no Garrus texture fix though. I mean, did they even fire the game up and play it up to that point? They mustn't have because that's one of the first things you notice when you talk to him. Freakin Q&A monkeys get paid for crap these days.

Bioware is aware of the graphical bugs, so hopefully it'll get stomped out when the first patch arrives. I really wish they'd stop hiring third party developers for their games. It always ends up in a disaster when they don't do it themselves.

Thanks shilk.

Are there any other tweaks that people are using? I looked through the guide that tweakguides released a few days ago but they said not to bother changing 90% of the options that they described... which made the whole thing seem kind of pointless to me.

What did they do to Garrus?! Did they forget to upgrade his texture? Garrus is my favourite character...

I know, this pisses me off so much. He's the only character like that too, I have no idea how a bug like this made it to release. It sounds like everyone is having the issue.

I read somewhere on the Bioware forums that the game is calling the wrong textures. Sometimes if you switch between characters in the inventory or character page you can see his normal, high res texture, then it "loads" the lower res one. Pretty lame, Played the entire game with just him and Wrex.

Based on this shot : http://img262.imageshack.us/img262/8...1317234fi3.jpg the texture is way worse than the 360 version, probably a bad texture call, like said.

He's my favorite character too though. Why does he inspire this sort of manly love in so many?

Don't know if this has been posted yet, but the credits music on ME rocked! Sounds like a combination between Radiohead and some 80's modern rock tune.... and it works really well together IMO!

So far, I love the music in this game.

It reminds me of the 80s and early 90s "cyberpunk" type music. Like Bladerunner or The Terminator (first one), or even some old early 90s video games.

Very atmospheric.

ME has one of the best soundtracks of a game ever... I even bought it on iTunes. The end song is great, yes, but so is the entire score.
