In some ways he reminds me of Jabba the Hutt ... but yeah the texture & facial details are the most impressive among all other characters i've seen so far!

Well, I just beat it.

Fantastic game. I played the paragon path. Spoilers: I also went with Liara for the romance, chose Kaiden to live and Ashley to die , kept Wrex on my side after Vermire, convinced Saren to give up and sacrificed the council for the "greater good" to destroy Sovereign.

Best ending of any game I've played.

Here is my mini review...

The plot, writing, voice acting... all of that, was excellent. Better than most movies I've seen. The whole story was just awesome, especially toward the end. I can't believe how thorough and "complete" the game universe feels. This is the first science fiction world I've seen that actually makes perfect sense and could actually be real. I think some of the characters could have used a little more depth (its hard not to compare this game to KOTOR when talking about characters) but they are still significantly better than most games AND movies.

The gameplay was very good overall. I had some rather irritating snags early on with the horrible squad AI but as I gained levels and had to worry less about my team mates, their dumb moves didn't matter too much. In fact having a good biotic on the squad (Spoiler: Liara)totally changed the combat for me. The missions and side quests were pretty good. A bit on the generic side some times, but not bad at all. I think with significantly more development time they could have made them a lot better, but considering how well done the main portions of the game are, its no surprise that they had to skimp on the side quests.

The RPG elements (characters improving their skills, gaining more powers and upgrading equipment) seemed a little light to me since the whole game scales to the players' level, but it worked really well and I have a hard time picturing this game as one where you can only go to certain planets at certain times without getting completely destroyed. Upgrading weapons and leveling may not have been as rewarding as in more traditional (read: older) RPGs but Bioware really made the scaling system work without making it all feel pointless.

The sound and music are overall excellent. I think it could have used more ambient sound in a lot of places, but the effects were great and the music fit the tone of the game perfectly.

The graphics are generally very good, but nothing really ground breaking. Some parts of the game look great, some were poor, but most of it is "good". Call me a fanboy, but I blame most of the visual short comings on the lack of memory and power of the game's source platform. Its no secret that the 360 is almost 3 years old now, so I was just happy to get a PC port that looked and ran decent.

Mass Effect isn't the most mind blowingly amazing game I've ever played, but its a solid 8.5 all around and the story and writing are among the best of any game, movie or show I've seen. I can't wait for Mass Effect 2!

Final Spoilers: Its really hard to think about any of the petty problems of other science fiction universes after seeing the EPIC cycle of destruction the Reapers bring to the Mass Effect universe. What an awesome idea, and what a fantastic ending for this game. It had a star-wars like victory feel to it. The story in this game is the definition of "epic" from start to finish.

BTW, why does the wikipedia article for Mass Effect say the downloadable content pack was released for PC in the USA on May 28th and in Europe on June 6th? According to the Mass Effect website it hasn't been released...

EDIT: Heh, someone must have read this and fixed it. It now says that the DLC is awaiting bug fixing. I was just going to change it myself.

Wow, just had a bit of a scare. I was registering my game at Bioware's website and I couldn't find my CD key.

After about a half hour of searching I found the stupid little Registration Code card behind my desk where I must have set the box after I installed the game.

It is now taped to the inside of the box and the code is written in the manual.

I recommend doing this if you didn't get a copy that actually had the code printed on the manual. That card is pretty damned small.

That's a good idea.

I should do that.
