Default Re: Mass Effect (PC) Feedback Thread

Just finished it this weekend. Played it from thursday last week and finished it on sunday. Played it for roughly 34 hours total, which translates into 8.5 hours pr. day on average. Yup this game had me totally sucked in! It knew it might do this which is also why I saved it for the summer vacation and I'm totally glad I did

Definitely among the top games I've ever played. The game has a number of obvious faults: exploring and sidemissions become weak and repetitive after a while, too easy to get rich, omni-gell concept seems too easy and badly designed, areas are generally small in scale which I partly blame on the game's console origins, too few weapon types.

But in spite of this, I have to look at how the game captivated me. If a game, no matter what inherent flaws, can draw me to sit and play it four full days straight until it's finished, that's what matters. And it's been a looong time since any game did that to me.
Having spoke of all the flaws, it's easy to see what's great about it: quality cinematic experience, very nice and fitting graphics, excellent sound all round (effects, voice, soundtrack), well written dialogue, you feel that the choices you make have real consequences, varied game environments, and IMO fun combat.
As I think CapnKill mentioned, it also really matters how much effort they have put into the game universe and filling in all sorts of details and background story. That won't matter to everyone, but it certainly matters to me.

It's definitely among the top 15 games I've ever played, perhaps even in the top 10. This makes me very excited about Mass Effect 2 since they will no doubt refine the experience, add to it and fix it where it didn't work. Overall it's really nice to see these games that only comes along once every few years and establishes itself as a favorite franchise

Good to see you liked it, i tried but i couldn't do it. I was surprised since i like sci-fi and i like RPGs, but Mass Effect was just so uninteresting. Too many cliches, not enough variety, awful graphics, boring action to name a few.

Hmm considering giving this a try again. First time i launched it, it played great. Second time, it would lock both the cores on my CPU at 100%. I just overclocked it to 3.2ghz, might try installing Windows 7 or something, and try it again.

I tried it a second time, actually gave it a good chance. 10+hours in I just couldn't take it any more.

It will hit the for sale pile soon.

Ok. Well I can see why this game is not for everyone. Although I really thought things like graphics and combat was universally fun. I played Engineer in my first run btw because I knew it was some of the more hard and challanging classes to play, which is good since I could not knock the difficulty up from veteran at first playthrough. Just goes to show how different we can be in our taste or perception.

Lol I just started a new character, this time a female soldier renegade bitch. Haha it's really funny, some of those "being an ass"-dialogue is simply hilarious and, altough kind of crude, so is hitting the right people in the face. Combat is fun as ever, now with all four weapons, feels varied even without my tech skills. Difficulty level a lot better on hardcore as well, I feel kind of challanged now and the medi-gel feels like a more valuable resource that I run out of often, not just carry 3+ around at all times as on veteran.

Glad to see you liked it... it's one of my favorite games as well. Way to go for being ballsy and doing the engineer... glad it worked out.

And to whoever said the graphics are bad in this game: you're stoopid.

Yeah fortunately engineer was a good fit for me. I especially loved the later abilities AI Hacking and Neural Shock. Nothing like crippling a bunch of krugas' shields, then overheat their weapons to make them charge melee, then have a couple of snipers on my team take out the rear ones and finally use neural shock on the front charging stinking krugan when he's 1 meter from me and see him hit the floor hard

I'm not sure I want to use my savegame for the sequel however, for me it will be more interesting to start a new character in the second game, especially if they have made new classes just as they have made new weapons and combat dynamics.

Final note, NO rpg/action-rpg game have ever prompted me to start a new game just shortly after completing it the first time. Another achievement for Mass Effect

I liked my Eng a lot, but my favorite class was probably the Vanguard, because I love running up close range and just slaughtering things.

Glad you liked the game, it's one of my favorites. I wanted to replay it immediately after finishing it as well (and I did).

I thoroughly enjoyed this game as well, I think the combination of the story + fun of combat kept me hook until the very end of the game. I'm not the kind of guy to go do sidequests so I only stayed on the main storyline. And I found it to be quite good

After beating it, I didn't go through it a second time. Dunno whats with me, I never replay single player games a second time .

I still have this game installed even after it was released all this time. One of my favs. I'm holding off on playing it through yet again on the account of the patch that's supposed to come out soon.

If I have to sit through and look at Garrus' face all nasty like that again, I'm gonna puke. At least the new DLC with the next patch should keep interesting.
