Ooops, it did it again. NvAGP = 0 didn't help.
I even found a way to reproduce it: I start KWrite from a Panel and then I resize the integrated console and Freeze. With the same symptoms all of you described: No keyboard input possible, PS/2 mouse still moves (but it doesn't mode to the other screens), and high system load by X. here my specs: - video card : ATI AIW Radeon 7500 and GeForce 2MX 420 PCI Dual Head - driver version : 1.0-4363 - distribution : Slackware 9.0/81 (Build OS: Linux 2.4.20 vanilla K7 [ELF]) - processor : Athlon XP2000+ (Palomino) - motherboard model : QDI/Legend Kudoz 7A (Via KT333) |

I'm having similar problems on Redhat 9, except that it's some of the screen savers crashing X. Mozilla and open office work fine. I'm also using Gnome by default, so this might explain the differences here.
I can ssh into the box and kill X. |

I tried "NvAGP" "1" or "NvAGP" "2". I crash with both of them. I'll stay to "NvAGP" "0", and I'll wait for the bug to be solved in future driver releases.
I'm happy that the drivers are working, even without agp |

it could be because AGPGART is loaded as a module or static in the kernel...
if you would remove agpgart then Option "NvAGP" "1" might do the trick.

But I have the SAME problem too.
Only the difference is that mine only occurs when I drag and drop icons inside Konqueror or on the desktop in KDE. No problem with OpenOffice, no problem with Mozilla. OpenGL apps including Blender work fine.Like everyone else this problem didn't occur on the 3123 drivers. I've turned off acpi, apic, etc. I have an LCD but I'm using it analog mode rather than DFP mode because my card doesn't have a DVI port. <flame> Honestly, I'm beginning to think that nVidia cards just suck and maybe I should go buy a Radeon </flame>I have an AOpen GeForce4 440 MX. I'm running an Athlon 1800+ XP on an SiS 735 chipset. I have agpgart turned off, and NVagp is set to "1". I tried NVAgp set to 0 and agpgart loaded as a module but that didn't work either. |

Okay, here's the deal.
If I turn OFF RenderAccel my problem goes away. I'm not sure if it's THAT much slower, but it seems slower. I don't really know. It seems to work though. |

This will seem ludicrous to most of you, but it appears that the problem may be solved by disabling GLX. I commented out the GLX module in my XF86Config and it hasn't frozen in 40+ hours now.
Of course, that means you have no 3d acceleration, which for most completely defeats the purpose of using the closed-source driver. For me however, I need it for TwinView. So *ahem*, we haven't heard anything about this issue in over a month from nvidia (are you out there, Andy?) |

I had same problem with M9.1 when using KDE and Netscape7. Opera works fine. It seems on my system it is pop-up related with KDE and Netscape7. If I use Gnome and Netscape7, no more lockup.
