Default 173.14.05 driver doesn't work with FX Go5200

The new (173.14.05) driver doesn't seem to work on my laptop which has a FX Go5200 video card. This is the error message from the Xorg.0.log:
Quote:
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA graphics device PCI:1:0:0.
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Please see the COMMON PROBLEMS section in the README for
(EE) NVIDIA(0): additional information.
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA graphics device!
I have downgraded to the 169.12 driver temporarily which works fine. Since the older driver works I don't think this has anything to do with my xorg configuration (which is pretty default anyways). I've tried both the package provided by Arch Linux developers and a manual installation of the nvidia *.run script -- neither works. The new driver, however, works fine on my desktop machine with a GeForce 7900 card.

See the attached log files... I'm happy to provide more info or test patches -- just let me know what you need. Thanks.

!!!EDIT: Please see post #3 for an updated nvidia-bug-report.log file.

This doesn't look good:

NVRM: loading NVIDIA UNIX x86 Kernel Module 169.12 Thu Feb 14 17:53:07 PST 2008
NVRM: API mismatch: the client has the version 173.14.05, but
NVRM: this kernel module has the version 169.12. Please
NVRM: make sure that this kernel module and all NVIDIA driver
NVRM: components have the same version.

Seems you have not updated the kernel module properly. Maybe the old one still lurks around somewhere and is loaded first?

Thanks for pointing this out ledoc. Unfortunately this has just to do with how/when I generated the nvidia-bug-report.log -- I was switching between different versions of the driver quite a bit for a while trying to figure out what's going on and thus the confusion. Attached is an updated nvidia-bug-report.log file.

Looks like the same problem as http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=113929
