I finally tried the demo yesterday. I can definitely see why slaWter says it's like driving on rails. I'm using a PS3 controller and the normal setup it is too sensitive for my tastes, but it looks like you can't turn down the sensitivity. The cars steers really fast on the pavement, but as soon as your on the dirt it just spins around really fast. The funny thing is that the gas/brakes are just the opposite. It feels like you have no traction when you take off and the cars don't brake nearly as well as they turn.

I think this could be fun but I need to get a little more used to how the car handles. I tend to ram the back of the AI because they brake where they are supposed to and I brake later because I think the cars should stop quicker than they do. BTW, I've only used the first beamer so I'm sure other cars would handle differently.

My buddy had similar issues but found switching to a 360 controller was like the diff between night & day!

He was just about to give up on the game but now he loves it.

Game seems to respond far better with 360 pad.

Better still with a MOMO Wheel

I'm using a Logitech Dual Action and it works fine. I didn't use any hacks to get it to work either, using the latest drivers and mapped everything in the game's control panel. It doesn't show the name of the gamepad but everything works regardless. I assigned the analog stick on the left to steering and assigned the analog stick on the right to gas and brake/reverse, up=gas, down=brake/reverse. Analog steering, gas and brake is a must for this game. Gradually increasing or decreasing the gas is great especially around turns and when you hit some dirt. I'm still playing the demo, i'm going to buy the full game next week.

nekro could you share your settings from the advanced graphics section after installing the mod?

I think the G25 works great in Grid. And the FFB is very good too imo. Not sure why wheels are getting slagged.

The only time my wheel acts strange is when I've damaged the crap out of my car. Then it will pull hard and sometimes oscillate, but that's just the damage model.

Strange...

Try GTR2 and maybe then the quality of the FF in GRID will become more apparent.

Are there any decent cheaper wheel\pedal setups without force feedback right now? I've used a few FF wheels and I didn't like them. The gears and motors make all sorts of irritating noise and have so much friction when just trying to turn the wheel. It feels like crap. I have an old non-FF Thrustmaster Nascar wheel and pedals that works great but it uses a gameport, which I no longer have.

i know what you mean. the ff wheels are totally unrealistic. the ff is totally overdone. it feels like the cars have 0 power steering.

I think it's difficult to compare GRID to GTR2. I just finished a round with both games and the effects are almost the same, the only thing missing in GRID is engine feedback. The tolerances in GTR2 are much tighter and less forgiving but from what I can tell all the same effects are there. If you compare GRIDs FF to TDU I would say GRID is better or ProStreet, GRID is way way better than ProStreet. IMO GRID feels almost exactly like DIRT. It took me a little while to get the G25 dialed in for GRID and I enjoy it a lot more than using any pad. The strength of FF is all adjustable as well as the centering power, you can make it so easy to turn you can use your pinky or so hard it takes two hands to rotate just 300 degrees.

I wouldn't recommend any other wheel over the G25.
