Hopefully the price of the RV770 will not reflect on performance as it used to happen before. I really like AMD and want them to get out of the trouble. God bless the RV770.

This could happen with the new ATI cards as well.
The 256bit 2.4GHz GDDR5 version should feature 153 GB/s. The problem on the R600 was the number of texture units. This time ATI has doubled them, and they run at higher clock than on the G80/G92/GT200, so, in theory, the texture filtering performance of this chip should be on par this time. So, this time, the extra bandwidth should be useful. Anyway, the main problem of the R600 was the setup of the ALU units. They were paired in groups of 5 units, and you needed to extract 5 instructions (without dependences) from the shader code per clock cycle, to keep each group busy. On the G80/G92, you just needed 1/2 instructions, which was much more easy. This was the main reason of the brillant performance of the G80 architecture: Efficiency.

Geforce GTX 260 & 280 system requirements

Geforce 280 require 550W PSU with 40A on 12V rail
Geforce 260 require 550W PSU with 36A on 12V rail

Core 2 Duo E6300 minimum

Windows Vista SP1

Phew I am good with my PSU qualified for it. Look like Windows XP is no more.

They just mean it's best to install Vista SP1 first for best performance for Vista users. It would be suicide to not support XP when it's still the far better OS and the most used OS atm.

Yeah well they would mention Windows XP SP3 but Vista is require for HybridPower power management.

GT200 architecture

10 TPC total
1 TPC has 3 TPA
1 TPA has 8 TP

All of these are re-optimized in the Thread Scheduler to manage, each TPA have a very strong LRF resources, through all the Crossbar low correlation with the extension of bus 32 and eight ROP MC link . TMU ROP, MC, HSR are re-designed, can provide a powerful part of the TPC commensurate with the complementary capabilities.

That's lame. Is there something specific in the OS that you need to do this or is nVidia just being cheap with their software development resources?

One could probably do an ROI where it might actually make financial sense to buy vista if you have a high end GPU, but still it would most likely take years of power savings to offset the OS cost.

Yes it the OS specific, only Vista SP1 take full advantage of HybridPower power management because of Vista SP1's new features added that Vista RTM lacked and same thing to XP SP3 cant handle it.

Think a Geforce GTX 280 will run Crysis fine with very high settings at 1920x1200 16xAA & 16xAF and a Geforce 280 SLi will run Crysis at 2560x1600 with very high settings.
