Default Steam gets competition. Stardock Impulse!

Coming June 17th

Stardock has already signed on many of the largest PC game publishers to put their titles onto Impulse

For users, this enterprise-level design has a few key benefits such as not requiring the user to be on-line to make full use of what they've installed. Impulse doesn't have on-line and off-line modes. It works equally well both ways (obviously one won't be able to update software off-line or play multiplayer).

don't like the look of it, competition is nice, but steam is just so much ahead.

Interesting...after SoaSE, I've got to admit that Stardock has really won me over. But Steam has a well established user base, not to mention HL2/TF2 and dozens of high quality titles available. How will they break into the market?

I'm honestly not interested or enthused in Steam having more competition... I'm interested in the entire PC gaming community supporting Steam.

Call me a communist.

Looks LAME. I like the clean/slick minimalistic look of Steam. Stardock has a hard-on for gloss effect.

there is just one thing that i would like steam to improve on. Non-steam bought games need better support in steam.

I like how you can add non-steam games, but it would be nice if it would detect developer, publisher, find score. Steam should get a deal with filefront.com and look up patches for non-steam games.

Right the hell on!

Need a few hundred more players to get in the fray. The more the merrier. More outlets for PC gaming, etc. It's the inevitable though. Eventually the market will be saturated.

Nvidia needs to get in the fray. That would be freakin cool. How bout Nvnews?

Are there any smoking deals on good games on here currently?

That's the only thing that's going to allow these guys to compete with Steam.

Like I said I can see everything going this way soon, and if they don't get their stuff together then you would need a client for each game you want to buy.

Imagine having three or four of these systems installed just to get the titles you want.
