Hurrican, a remake of old classic Turrican series. Being a fan project it's free too

Then there's _the_ Metroid SR388 remake, dunno when they release it but click the name for trailer and drewl

Dukenukem Manhattan project ?

If you really like good sidescrolling platformers, then the two Castlevania games on DS are great... but course you'd need a DS for those.

Wow that Metroid remake looks awesome.

Metroid is probably the only 2D action game series I really call myself a "fan" of. Super Metroid was great, Metroid Fusion was excellent, Zero Mission was pretty good too. Haven't played the older ones much though. The original NES game just doesn't have much appeal any more with the drawn out repetitive levels. I think I only played Metroid 2 once way back in the early 90s on the original big fat monochrome Gameboy.

I'd definitely play this remake though.

Awesome game.
I've finally been trying to beat the game (I beat it with cheats back when I rented it on SNES, but I owned the PC version back in the day (spin wheel for entering codes)). The 4th level is so brutal, I don't see how anyone ever beat the game (I'm using save states now).

[edit : was reading that site more, apparently the SNES version was harder.]

Never really got into Megaman.

Most of the side scrollers or platformers I liked enough to play all the way through didn't get sequels. Flashback, Blackthorne and Out of This World, were my favorites.

I just remembered the Super Star Wars series though. I did beat all three of those. I think that's it though.

Yea this one is a MUST play for anyone that hasn't by now. I finally beat this a few months ago when they made a version for modded Xbox 1s (which also let you save state, lol)

Wow, there were so many games like that in the early 90's. Humans? Joe & Mac Caveman Ninja? Bonk? Those are just the big name ones off the top of my head.
