buying DDR3 right now is pointless, maybe if you have a lot of money to burn, by the time nehalem is released you will be buying new DDR3 for it.

That's true, knowing me, I'll probably want a 3x2GB DDR3 2000 kit

Just to add my experience, I had a Striker Extreme which started to have major reliability problems. I've just switched over to a P35 based board and I'm very happy with the result.

I've got nothing but praise for my ASUS Rampage Formula. X48 that supports DDR2. Probably the best mobo I've ever owned, regarding build quality and stability. It detected my Xeon right off the bat, and I OC'ed up to 3.6 without a hitch.

The last ASUS mobo I had was iffy too, old nForce2 board I think. But this one has really impressed me. The X38/X48 platform seems a lot more stable than the 680/780 from what I read when I was researching for my new computer.
