My 2 cents.

my P35 is ROCK solid. love it.

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115037

As for RAM, I don't know, but like I said, I only need 2GB. Unless I might as well get 4GB and just let WinXP eat part of it. The DDR2 RAM (2GB 2x 1GB) with the best rating (G.Skill) on Newegg is about $60.00, making all 3 items around $440.00, which would work.
i would consider picking up a copy of Vista Home Premium (x64) and 4GB of ram.

tbh, most of the people who hate vista have lacking PC's or have never used it for a extended period of time.

SLI BAD. Intel chipset good.

E6600. DB edition
X38 or P35.
4GB 2x2 G-skill or Corsair.
Vista Home Prem 64bit.
1 Kickass Video card.
You would be happy and pleased with stability & performance. JUst ask around Nvidia chipsets are the thing of the past.

Okay, what about this motherboard? Since I am going Intel, there is no reason to get a mobo with two PCI-e slots for Crossfire if I'm not going to buy two ATI cards, right? This (P35) board has the best rating on Newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813127030

I will never buy another Abit after my last experience, but others say it is a good board. You could get a gigabyte p35 for a very good price right now as well.

If you hate DRM, stay far away from Intel as possible.

Intel has been in the sack with M$ about it for awhile.

Get a quad Phenom and you won't have to wurry and besides, it is a better chip for the price.

I use both Intel and AMD and i had no issues with copyright protection with the AMD unlike i did with Intel.

I love how a CPU can ignore macrovision.

That abit is a good board. You could get a p35-e for cheaper, or just get a $99 Gigabyte and probably get the same performance.

Question about this ASUS X38. It says the Memory Standard is DDR2 1200. Will is support DDR2 1066? I don't want to assume it's like most memory in the past where you can always put "lower" memory in, ya know?

I like the layout of this board.
